The McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department serves 1008 square miles and there are 5 cities – Ashley (county seat), Lehr, Wishek, Venturia, & Zeeland – Population of the county is approx. 2,500
The Sheriff’s Department consists of the sheriff and two deputies. The sheriff has 17 years law enforcement experience, is 63 yoa & is a 7 year US Marine Corps veteran.
The City of Wishek has their own police department that consists of the Chief of Police and one patrol officer.
The department provides take home vehicles for all officers – the sheriff drives a 2018 Ford Explorer, the Chief Deputy drives a 2022 Ford F150, and the Deputy drives a 2020 Ford F150 (all fully equipped). The department personnel duty weapon is a G***k 22 Gen4 .40 cal. and we are in the process of transitioning over to S&W 9mm with red dot. The reporting system we use is the Law Enforcement Reporting Management System (LERMS) – citations are completed on Traffic & Criminal Software (TraCS). We use WatchGuard in-car cameras & bodycams. We also use Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and our Public Service Answering Point (PSAP) for emergency 911 is ND State Radio dispatched out of Bismarck – we are served off the Wishek Tower. Uniforms, duty belt, vest, etc are provided.
Starting salary: $55,700
McIntosh County Benefits:
- Health Insurance is provided through Sanford Health Plan – County pays 90% (employee responsibility for a family plan is $204.25 & a single plan is $84.49)
- Retirement is with Public Safety NDPERS – the county pays both the employer & employee portion (100% paid by the county)
- Vacation is based off of years of service
Deputy work schedule (Pitman schedule):
One week: work M,Tu,F,Sat,Sun – off W & Th
Next week: work W & Th – off M,Tu,F,Sat,Sun
Repeat
When a deputy is scheduled to work, call time is also necessary for those days – no call time while on days off. In essence, deputies work 7 days in 2 weeks.
When situations arise that call for all three officers to work, the deputy that works on their day off is compensated $250 for a call in day - Holidays are treated with the same compensation.
Court is scheduled every 5 weeks on a Tuesday and all officers are expected to be at court and the deputy that has the day off is excused for the remainder of the day when court concludes – no compensation for this.

POLICE OFFICER
The Bemidji Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer and establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies. Applicants must meet the minimum selection standards set by MN POST Board and be licensed or eligible to be licensed by April of 2024. Starting salary is $32.83 ~ $41.59/hour (annually $68,286 ~ $86,503) with a shift differential pay of $1.50/hour. Lateral pay may be available for qualified candidates. Monthly healthcare benefit is paid at minimum of $1,155/month for single coverage and $1,575 for family. There is also a 2% pay incentive for having a Bachelor’s Degree or 4% for having a Master’s Degree. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement that includes a full-time benefit package, plus all required uniforms and equipment. DEFINITION:
A Police officer performs a wide variety of duties connected with general police work including investigation, general enforcement of laws and ordinances in the City of Superior and providing other various types of assistance to include advancing the mission of the Superior Police Department. The entry level Police Officer must successfully complete a 18 week recruit academy (if not Wisconsin certified) and 14 weeks of on-the-job-field training. Driver License Requirement: Must become certified as a State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer within one year of hire date and maintain such certification.

The exam will be given in Superior only. Exam notices will be emailed to qualified applicants at the email address listed on their application.
PHYSICAL READINESS TEST & ORAL EXAM: Will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, in Superior, Wisconsin. SAVE THE DATE! Additional information will be emailed as soon as it is known. We will be giving the Law Enforcement Academy Physical Readiness Test (PRT). Please read through the exam and save the link so you can practice and be prepared on January 14th.
Eligible applicants must score among the top 50 passing candidates on the written test to continue in the process. Successful candidates must then pass an oral exam and a physical readiness test to be placed on the eligible list. Veteran's Preference points will be assigned prior to calculating the final score for ranking on the eligible list. Following these tests, candidates on the certified hire list must complete and pass a background investigation to be considered for appointment. Finally, candidates must pass a psychological examination, post job offer medical examination and drug screen to receive a probationary appointment.
The eligible list established through this process will be used for filling vacancies for a two year period from the date the list is established. The list can be extended up to 3 years by the Police and Fire Commission.
