Sign Ups for Hiawatha Park and Rec programing at Nixon is open! Please use this link to sign your learner up for after school activities- arts and crafts (K-5) Monday, Sports is Thursday (3-5 Only)!

Every school needs a great coach, and we are so thankful to have Kari in our corner! 🐾

Kari is an incredible resource for our Nixon staff and students. She brings a wealth of knowledge to our building and is always willing to share it, whether that means helping a teacher think through instruction, finding the right resource, working directly with students, problem-solving a challenge, or simply jumping in wherever an extra set of hands is needed.

And when we say she does A LOT for our school, we mean it! Kari wears so many hats and gives so much of her time and energy to making sure our teachers feel supported and our students have what they need to be successful. She is always ready with a new idea or a helpful suggestion! Her knowledge, hard work, and willingness to help make such a difference at Nixon every single day.

Thank you Kari for everything you do for our Bobcats! 💚💛We appreciate you more than you know! Happy Instructional Coach Appreciation Day!

Celebrating Two of Nixon’s Very Best! 💛💚

Yesterday was School Custodian Appreciation Day, and we couldn’t let the day pass without celebrating two of the absolute BEST- Mike and Sherri!

Mike and Sherri are truly wonderful people, inside and out. They do an incredible job making sure our school is clean, safe, functioning, and ready for our students and staff each day. But what makes them even more special is the way they care for our kids. They are kind, patient, always willing to lend a hand, and constantly going the extra mile.

You could say they really sweep us off our feet with everything they do! 😉 And when things get a little messy around here (literally OR figuratively lol), we know Mike and Sherri will always clean up the competition!

We also had two very kind students bring Mike and Sherri the CUTEST gifts to honor them on their special day. Our students and staff created a banner to show their appreciation, and our staff put together baskets filled with some of Mike and Sherri’s favorite goodies!

Anyone at Nixon will tell you that these two are truly part of our foundation and sometimes quite literally keep this place going! Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt in every classroom, hallway, and corner of our school. Mike and Sherri, THANK YOU for your hard work, dedication, kindness, and the pride you take in making Nixon a safe and welcoming place for our students and staff. We appreciate you more than you know! We sure are lucky to have you as part of our Nixon family!

🌿2nd Grade Adventures at Wickiup Hill!🌿

Our 2nd graders had the opportunity to visit Wickiup Hill Learning Center for a fun day of learning and exploring! 🌳

Students were able to take their learning outside the classroom, explore nature, and learn more about the world around them through hands-on experiences. A big thank you to the staff at Wickiup Hill Learning Center and everyone who helped make this experience possible for our students!

✏️📚Bringing Personal Narratives to Life!

Students in Mr. Calcara’s class have been hard at work writing their own personal narratives during reading class! Now, they’re taking their stories one step further.

With the help of our librarian, Mrs. Weber, students are finding digital pictures to illustrate their writing and creating their very own Personal Narrative Lockers!

It is awesome to see students combine reading, writing, creativity, and digital literacy to make their stories uniquely their own! 💚💛

There’s been lots of creativity happening in Mrs. Linahon’s Art Room!

🌟 A-Team started painting backgrounds for a collage they’ll be creating next week. They LOVE to paint, and we can’t wait to see the finished pieces!

👏 5th Grade – Mrs. Everman’s Class earned a FREE DAY in Art for following directions and doing an AMAZING job cleaning up the art room. Way to go!

🔵 Kindergarten practiced “Dot Dot, Not A Lot” while learning how to use liquid glue and practiced ripping paper using their fingers. They did an AWESOME job!

🎨 A look back at last week: Students in grades 1–5 practiced painting techniques and art room clean-up routines. They did a fantastic job taking care of the paintbrushes and paints and following the clean-up routine! The tree painting pictured is one example of the beautiful artwork they created.

Great job to all of our young artists, and thank you to Mrs. Linahon for helping their creativity shine! ✨
