Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Adison Williams! Adison is an active member of volleyball, basketball, softball, dance team, and FFA. Adison also serves on the activities/entertainment committee for the NHS Chapter.

Following high school graduation, Adison plans to attend Fort Scott Community College. She plans to major in education. Her career goal is to be an elementary teacher.

Adison is a daughter of Heather and Mike Williams, and the sister of Brynn and Michaela Williams.

Adison said, “NHS will be beneficial for me because I will get to get extra community service hours, and it will hold me to a standard to make sure that my grades don't drop and I stay on top of all of my work!”

Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Gus Smith! Gus is an active member of football, scholars bowl, powerlifting, forensics, journalism, concert band, and track. Gus also serves on the service committee for the NHS Chapter.

Following high school graduation, Gus will be attending the United States Navy Nuclear Training Pipeline Program. Through this program, Gus will earn many engineering credits that he will apply towards his degree in either electrical or nuclear engineering. His career goal is to spend a minimum of eight years in the Navy and possibly become a defense contractor or be employed at a nuclear power facility.

Gus is the son of Mark and Kari Smith and the brother of Max Smith and Grace Smith

Gus said, “The National Honors Society is beneficial because it gave me many opportunities to help people in the community, and make connections that I would not have if I was not in the NHS. NHS is also the only activity that I participate in with structured meetings, which might help me in the future.”

Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Kenzie Nelson! Kenzie is an active member of cross country, basketball, softball, KAYS, FFA, NHS, travel softball & basketball, and yearbook.

Following high school graduation, Kenzie plans to attend Colby Community College where she plans to major in Beef & Horse Production and Management, and Veterinary Technology. Her career goal is to be a Veterinary Technician.

Kenzie is the daughter of Sherri Nelson, and the sister to Kylie and Kinley Nelson.

Kenzie said, “National Honors Society is beneficial because you get to serve and help people in the community, along with making a positive impact. It allows us to grow our organization, teamwork and leadership skills, which will be important for when we get out into the real world.”

Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Ashley Valerie Moraleda! Ashley is an active member of Art club and Scholar's Bowl and previously managed the volleyball team. Ashley also serves on the Service committee for NHS.

Following high school graduation, Ashley plans to attend college at Highland Community College. She plans to major in Nursing. Her career goal is to be a Nurse Practitioner or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

Ashley is the daughter of Valymar and Liza Moraleda, and the sister to Theo Marcellus Moraleda.

Ashley said, “NHS is beneficial because it improves skills like leadership, service, and teamwork. It also can help me with my scholarship and college applications. In other words, being in NHS opens doors to new opportunities and helps me stand out.”

Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Taryn Keller! Taryn is an active member of Journalism and Headliners. Taryn also serves on the Activities/Entertainment committee for the NHS Chapter.

Following high school graduation, Taryn plans to attend college at University of Kansas. She plans to major in Nursing. Her career goal is to be a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

Taryn is the daughter of Danyel Rockwell and Luke Keller, and the sister of Brayton, Maddie, Havyn and Camdyn.

Taryn said, “I think that NHS is beneficial because it gives high school students the opportunity to be recognized for their hard work and accomplishments throughout their high school career. It is also beneficial for the community because NHS contributes to community service actions.”

Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Karson Henry! Karson is an active member of Football, Basketball, Baseball, Track, FFA, FBLA, and Student Council. He also serves on the Activities/Entertainment committee for NHS.

Following high school graduation, Karson plans to attend college at Southwestern Iowa Community College. He plans to major in Business. His career goal is to be a business owner.

Karson is the son of Corey and Lori Henry and the brother of Ashlynn and Ethan Henry.

Karson said, “My favorite thing about NHS is helping the community and being able to make an impact on those in need.”

A handful of NHS members visited Mr. Rupe for National Crossing Guard Day! They presented him with a gift and encouraged the morning commuters to show their appreciation by honking! We appreciate Mr. Rupe and look forward to his morning smile!

National Honor Society members partnered with the Robinson Lions Club to support its 58th annual melodrama by helping prepare the Birdcage Theater for the upcoming performance. Students contributed to this semester’s service project by cleaning the space, arranging seating, and assisting with decorations, ensuring the theater was welcoming and ready for the community.

Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Emylia Cheek! Emylia is an active member of fall cheerleading, and manages the girls and boys Hiawatha/D-West wrestling team.

Following high school graduation, Emylia plans to attend Southeast Community College. She plans to major in Radiology Technology. Her career goal is to be an MRI Technologist, and maybe later an Ultrasound Tech.

Emylia is a daughter of Kelli and Mitchell Cheek, and the sister of Dylan and Molly Cheek.

Emylia said, “NHS is beneficial because it motivates people to strive for better grades, and gives us more opportunities to help our community.”

Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Brylie Williams! She is the NHS Stucco Representative. Brylie is an active member of volleyball, FBLA, Art club, Stucco, and KAYS.

Following high school graduation, Brylie plans to attend college at the University of Kansas! Rock Chalk! She plans to major in Human Biology and minor in Psychology. Her career goal is to either be a pediatric or family-medicine physician.

Brylie is a daughter of Hollie and Dustin Williams and the sister of Tenley Williams.

Brylie said, “My favorite thing about NHS is all the community service and activities we get to do in school and for others. Helping people and the community is a very rewarding experience that helps build our motivation, teamwork, and character. NHS is a great way to be more involved and help others.”

Happy Friday Red Hawks! Our spotlight senior is Lainey Nelson! She is the NHS Treasurer. Lainey is an active member of cheer, golf, yearbook, FBLA, NHS, and student council.

Following high school graduation, Lainey is undecided on where she will be attending. She plans to major in Radiologic Technology. Her career goal is to be a Radiology Technologist.

Lainey is a daughter of Kyle Nelson, Susie Nelson, and a sister to Kylie and Kyndall Nelson.

Lainey said, “My favorite thing about NHS is having the opportunity to be recognized for my hard work in and outside of school. It feels very rewarding to be a part of this organization and give back to the community. I enjoy supporting others and assisting my peers.”
