The Soldier We Remember
We stop for a second, maybe a minute, to remember those who have lost their lives fighting battles for all of us and those who have cried for help.
Think for a moment about the entirety.
The strive to step up and take the oath to serve our nation.
The strength to leave everything they have ever known, their family, their friends and to get through the rigorous training for us.
The endurance to push through the hard days and nights that battles bring upon them for us.
The love they show when they talk to their families as if nothing is wrong; it is barely even a battle, they say. Just an ongoing party fest with their fellow soldiers, nothing to see here, they say to bring peace to their loved ones.
The commitment to push every day to keep going.
That moment of courage to take their last breath in battle to save their fellow men and women. To save men, women, children, a nation.
So this weekend, don’t walk by that veteran with a nonchalant “thank you for your service.” Thank them for their sacrifice. Understand the losses they have witnessed. Understand they were there for the battle, and they are in mourning—not only on Memorial Day but every day for the rest of their lives. The memories do not leave them. If you know of a family that has lost a soldier, be sincerely understanding of what I just said.
Stop for a moment if you are one of those individuals who say, “Well, they chose this.” You are right about that. The attitude you wrongly and horrifically display is almost sinful. The word, emotion, and expression that you should be seeking daily for those men and women is **gratitude**. So stop for a moment, reach out of your self-bubble, and be among the people for the day with gratitude.
I am truly and sadly sorry for the losses felt across this nation today. I can’t imagine getting that knock on the door or that phone call that said he or she wasn’t coming home. The sons. The daughters. The fathers. The mothers. The family member who will not be at that BBQ or that beachside or lakeside gathering. May God be with you, healing your hearts, giving you the strength, courage and love to endure. May you see that little reminder that assures you they are okay and watching you from heaven. You are loved. You are honored and we thank you for the sacrifice of your soldiers.
Many blessings this Memorial Weekend and Day
