šŸšŸ¦ Championship teams donā€™t just have talent. They are intentional about building a connected culture.

Had an incredible opportunity to pour into the East Texas A&M Volleyball team East Texas A&M Volleyball and talk about Championship Connectionā€”understanding how weā€™re wired, communicating through our differences, managing emotions, competing without becoming enemies, and learning what our teammates need from us.

We built the conversation around three things:

šŸ”„ Confidence ā€” Know what YOU bring.
šŸ”„ Humility ā€” Be willing to learn, receive correction, and adjust.
šŸ”„ Appreciation ā€” Recognize and value what THEY bring.

One of my favorite reminders from our time together:

Donā€™t let ME become the enemy of WE.

You can compete for playing time and still cheer for your teammate. You can be disappointed and still bring energy. You can receive correction without taking it personally. And you can communicate differently while still staying connected.

Talent can win plays. Connected teams build championship culture.

And yeahā€¦getting to pour into a team that includes my daughter made this one a little extra special for Dad. ā¤ļøšŸ

Had the opportunity to spend some time with the East Texas A&M University Volleyball Team talking about what it takes to move from talented individuals to a connected TEAM. šŸ¦šŸ

We talked Championship Connection, communication, competition, personality, emotions, and cultureā€”using their Color Personality results to better understand themselves AND the teammates beside them.

A few things we wrestled with:

šŸ”„ Your preference explains you. It doesnā€™t excuse you.
šŸ”„ Be curious before you create a conclusion.
šŸ”„ You can compete with your teammate without rooting against your teammate.
šŸ”„ Your teammateā€™s success doesnā€™t take away from your value.
šŸ”„ Sometimes your teammate needs a Cheerleader. Sometimes a Counselor. Sometimes a Coach. Learn your people.
šŸ”„ Donā€™t let ME become the enemy of WE.

Championship culture isnā€™t proven when everything is going your way. Itā€™s revealed in how you respond when youā€™re corrected, frustrated, disappointed, challenged, or somebody else gets the opportunity you wanted.

Confidence: Know what YOU bring.
Humility: Be willing to learn and adjust.
Appreciation: Recognize and value what THEY bring.

Then take all of that and BUILD WE.

Special experience for me getting to pour into this team and, as a dad, getting to sit in a room with my daughter and her teammates as they prepare to compete at the D1 level.

That means something to me because I produced this project too. Every beat. Every bar. Every decision. Growth was part of the assignment.
