Today’s is at Hesperia High School. We are in Miss Campbell’s art class. This program helps scorpion artists explore and refine their artistic skills and compete in contests. Recent accomplishments within HHS art include 5 students being best in show at the 2023 San Bernardino County Fair, 3 students placed on the 2023 Congressional Art competition and their artwork hangs in either the capital building in Washington DC or in one of Congressman Obernolte’s offices and Scorpion artists have won the Advance Disposal Art contest 10 out of the last 11 years! Today students did a peer reflect on artwork and the ability to express emotion through art. Great job HHS students!
Our is at Cedar Middle School for their eSports elective class. This is the 3rd year Miss Powell has taught the class. The curriculum includes coding, digital literacy STEM, game design, and of course eSport gaming. The program collaborates and feeds into Oak Hills High School's eSports program. Today Miss Powell's class was split into 2 groups. One practicing for their next eSports match on Wednesday and the other half was working on a coding project. eSports programs now offer millions of dollars in scholarships that students can apply for and the gaming and game design fields are booming areas with a lot of career opportunities. Good luck on Wednesday eSports Spartans!

takes us to Hesperia High School for the annual HUSD tradition, powder puff flag football! All HUSD High Schools host a powder puff event once a year where the ladies who didn't play on the co-ed tackle football team can show their skills in a flag football 4 team tournament. The Frosh, Soph, Junior and Senior teams all play. This year at HHS the 2025 Juniors walked away with the tournament win! Kudos to all the ladies who played and all the staff and students who helped put the event on.
Today's takes us to Miss Padilla's journalism class, which is a new program at MHS geared towards helping students focus their creative skills and keep students, staff and parents informed about all the amazing things happening at MHS. During today's class, students interviewed other students and even sat down with our very own Assistant Superintendent, Isaac Newman-Gomez. The Coyote Howl newsletter is released in hard copy and digitally on the MHS website. Just another way HUSD is helping students apply learning to the real world.
Don't miss the fun next Saturday!! There will be so many new books for your children to read and so many fun activities!
Today's takes us to Oak Hills and Mrs. Kaufer's Sports Medicine class. In this CTE class, Mrs. Kaufer teaches sports medicine that includes real-world experience as her students are at athletics practices and travel with the teams to treat injured athletes.
While there, students Mia Ramirez and Jacqueline Cantu demonstrated ankle taping for us and showed us the techniques that Mrs. Kaufer had taught them. We were also shown the recovery room where her students use equipment to help injured athletes recover from their injuries. The recovery room includes all kinds of state-of-the-art equipment that students get experience using.
Thank you to Mrs. Kaufer and her students for welcoming us into their classroom.
Today was the first day of the HUSD eSports competitive season. Several schools competed today with Hesperia High & Mojave High walking away with wins. Our hope is that HUSD eSports players take advantage of some of the millions of dollars in college eSports scholarships that are available and possibly a career in the lucrative gaming, or game design fields in the future. Congrats to all of the students and staff coaches who make this program possible! If you would like to know more about this program please call your school's front office or go to www.hesperiausd.org/page/e-sports

Today's takes us to Sultana High School's Science Department. SHS believes that hands-on science learning is the best way to learn. Today we saw an example of exactly that in Mrs. Maestas' and Miss Becerra's Integrated 1 Sci class. Students combined chemicals and blew bubbles in the solutions, measured the bubble diameters, graphed the data and made conclusions about what chemicals created the strongest bubble bonds. Science can be fun!
Big shout-out to the HUSD Adult School and the Family Resource Center for having booths at the CAHelp community resource fair which was held at the Desert Mountain SELPA center on Wed 9/6/23. Families that attended were given a whole host of resources and the free kids finger painting and raffles were also a huge hit. Just another example of how HUSD is always going the extra mile to connect and assist the community.
