As we count down to our 92nd Commencement Ceremony, we’re reflecting on the rich history of ceremonies that came before—moments that capture not just graduation day, but the challenges, milestones, and spirit of each era.

Here are just a few of those unforgettable moments:
🎓 In 1943, a smaller, wartime class gathered in the school auditorium for Commencement.
🎓 In 1945, empty seats marked with banners honored graduates who left to serve before graduation.
🎓 In 1953, a joint Commencement Ceremony with Hershey High School and Hershey Junior College celebrated the town’s 50th anniversary—featuring speaker Milton Eisenhower.
🎓 In 1981, the first female students graduated from MHS.
🎓 In 1995, Coretta Scott King delivered a powerful Commencement address.

Each ceremony tells a story of resilience, community, and possibility—and now it’s time to celebrate the next chapter.

At Milton Hershey School, the Pledge shapes both who we are and who we’re becoming. The seniors in Transitional Living Allen share how living every part of the Pledge helps them stay confident, support one another, and honor the people who have helped them along the way.

Together, our students, staff, alumni, parents/sponsors, and community partners brought the 100 Years, 1,000 Voices Challenge to life. Submissions are now closed, and we look forward to sharing the final count and honoring this collective achievement at our 92nd Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, June 14—a moment that will reflect the power of our community and the legacy of Our Pledge.

Today, Milton Hershey School seniors kicked off Commencement week with the Senior Chapel and Ring Ceremony.

During this final Chapel service, students were given letters they had written to themselves in August at the Senior Only Chapel, outlining their goals, hopes, and expectations for their last year at MHS.

At the end of the service, students each received their class ring. The MHS class ring tradition dates back to the 1930s, symbolizing unity and a deep connection to the Hershey legacy.

Each year, Milton Hershey School celebrates members of the graduating class who have spent the majority of their childhood growing, learning, and building relationships within the MHS community. These students, known as lifers, share a unique bond, having entered the school at a young age and experienced every milestone together.

Surrounded by former teachers, houseparents, mentors, and supporters, lifers celebrated the connections they’ve made and the foundation they carry forward, marking their transition from students to alumni while honoring a shared experience that will stay with them for years to come.
