Veronica “F***y” Snavely Hershey was born September 4, 1835, the daughter of Abraham Snavely (1787-1866) and Elizabeth (Buckwalter) Snavely. She was named after her great-grandmother.
F***y grew up on a "well-to-do" family farm in Lancaster Co, PA. She was the youngest of six children. Her father was a clergy.
She was a loving mother and biggest supporter. She picked him up when he was down, supported each business venture and never turned her back. Most importantly, she gave him great advice, including the following:
“When I left home my mother had given me some advice I never forgot. ‘Milton,’ she said, ‘now that you’re going out in the world alone, my best advice to you is: when you tackle a job, stick to it until you have won the battle.’ I remember these words, first when I got discouraged in the printing office, and later when I got discouraged at my first business venture.”

In the new year, may you "consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do."
Pope John XXIII
Best Wishes for a happy and healthy new year!

As we celebrate this holiday season, remember to cherish your loved ones, reach out to your long lost friends and family members, and take a moment to value what you have in life!
Take nothing for granted!
This holiday season, I challenge all of you to give of yourself by helpping those that are less fortunate. It can be something as simple as opening a door for a stranger, a hug at church, or just sharing a laugh with someone sitting next to you on the bus.
While happiness and love may be plentiful in our lives, remember that others struggle to find a reason to smile. Be that force be good and help others recognize their value!
I thank my good friend Richard La Pratt, NOLA for sharing this.
