The following message was forwarded to me by another alum and originates from Lisa Balanda. I am posting it here in the hopes that it reaches as many eyes as possible. Feel free to share.
Mr. Bittinger is retiring at the end of this year after 35 years at HHS!
I believe you may have had him for a class. If so, you may be able to help is. The English department is surprising Bitt at the end of the year with a little party. Mrs. Reinert and I are also putting together a memory scrapbook with letters and notes from former students. We are trying to reach out to as many alum as we can both gather. Please help us. If you would like to contribute, please let me know and I will send you an email. And if you can help spread the word, we would really appreciate it.
Thank you!
UPDATE:
This is the full email from Mrs. Balanda (feels weird to call her Lisa so I'll stick with that...) The contact email is included along with some guidance on what would be appreciated for Bitt. Hope everyone is well.

I hope this email finds you healthy, happy, and enjoying life!
I am reaching out to you with an invitation to contribute to what we hope will be a very meaningful gift to Mr. Bittinger on the occasion of his retirement.
To know “Bitt” is to love him. Frankly, though we all have been having fun at Mr. Bitt’s expense this year as we mark all of the “lasts” of his career, so many of us are quite melancholy at the thought of returning to school in August without his presence in room 117.
Mr. Richard Bittinger spent all 35 of his years in education teaching English at Hershey High School!! Please help us send him into blissful retirement (and lawn care) with what we know will be a very meaningful “memory book” to capture all that he has meant to so many people.
Mrs. Reinert and I are collecting notes/tributes/gratitude-greetings/etc. to include in a scrapbook of his amazing professional career. Please consider submitting a letter or anecdote or memory for Bitt. Also, please consider helping us by reaching out to your friends and classmates to ask them to do the same. We are trying to reach as many former students as possible, but we realize that we will not be able to contact all of Bitt’s former students, so feel free to spread the word. **But please know, THIS IS A SURPRISE!!!! We will present this book to Mr. Bitt at an English Department celebration at the end of the school year.
Please email your notes to me at [email protected]
We ask that you include your full name and your graduation year. We will be accepting submissions from now until the week of May 22nd (we anticipate needing some time to finish the book).
Thank you so much for your consideration! I look forward to hearing from you!
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Balanda
P.S. Please help spread the word to your classmates, friends from other years, and siblings!!! We want to collect as many notes as possible!
