First indoor meet is this Monday in Marion. Field events start at 2:45. We only have a couple of indoor meets and because we don't have indoor facilities to get our girls ready, we really use these as learning experiences for our upcoming outdoor season. Most girls are only in one event.

Monday and Wednesdays are workouts for sprinters and jumpers. Tuesday and Thursday are throwers.

We have no word on when we might start our season. Over the past 20 years we have traditionally started in the middle of January to prepare for the short indoor season. This year there will only be an outdoor season. For all distance runners, you need to start putting in your miles asap. Even sprinters should start with some activity a couple of times per week. If you know of any girls that are interested in coming out for track, please get them on this page. With our current situation, this will be a source for them to check on any upcoming announcements.

Thanks, coach Baumgarte

So here we are at the end of the season and I have failed to keep up the page....again. Without going into great detail, our season has gone well. Our numbers are low this year. We have been dealt some setbacks at the start but could not be happier with the results of the girls this year. Our conference track meet is next Thursday at Benton. If there is any way you could put it on your schedule, please do. We will be attempting to defend our 6 year reign with our 7th straight conference championship. Going into the meet it looks to be a battle between us and Benton for the title. On paper, we come out in 2nd place. Paper has told us that before but until someone shows me that a pre-meet paper is the Gospel, we will compete until the last event is over. One thing I will guarantee you is that when it is over, we will have competed harder than any of our opponents. If you want to beat us in our Conference Championship, you better be ready for a war, because we will be ready to fight until the end.

Indoor update.
Jr. Bianca Huddson has just qualified in the triple jump for the Illinois Top Times indoor 2A championship to be held this Saturday in Bloomington IL. The top 12 statewide are selected in each field event. Bianca currently has the 6th best jump in the state at 35' 5". What's more impressive is the fact that she has not had 1 single triple jump practice the entire year due to the bad weather conditions. Wish Bianca good luck as she competes for All State honors and represents Herrin High School.
