šŸ“” In the late 1970s, amateur radio was a popular hobby for people who loved technology, electronics, and communication. Many engineers, technicians, and even individuals connected with NASA enjoyed spending their free time on the amateur radio bands.

This photo shows Don Schmidt at his home radio station in Strongsville, Ohio. From stations like this, radio amateurs could talk with people across the country and around the world.

For many operators, amateur radio was more than just a hobby. It was a way to learn about antennas, radio propagation, electronics, and worldwide communications. The same curiosity and technical skills that fueled the Space Age could often be found in the ham radio community. Don Schmidt and Amateur Radio in 1970s Ohio šŸ“”
