So happy that my kid's chemistry teacher survived because of the efforts of all the fabulous folks at HHS!
They say training is key, but rarely do we get to see it used so effectively to save a life. When a teacher had a seizure and collapsed at Herndon High School, students instantly went into action. One pushed the emergency button in the classroom to alert the main office, and a few more ran as fast as they could until they found SRO Philip Stone. Another bravely called 911 herself to get help for her teacher. A handful more who are lifeguard-trained placed the teacher in the recovery position after the seizure had stopped.
By the time SRO Stone arrived at the scene, the school’s security specialist was already on the way with an automated external defibrillator, or AED. SRO Stone was quickly able to begin CPR and use the AED to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
The incredible team effort made by the staff, students and our own SRO Stone made all the difference in saving the teacher’s life. According to SRO Stone, the refresher CPR training he took just a month ago helped keep him sharp and calm during the incident. This event goes to show that good training and quick, decisive action can make all the difference in an emergency! The teacher involved is on the mend, and we are hopeful for a speedy recovery.

It's time to get outside and enjoy the Spring weather. Please be aware of poisonous snakes in Virginia, including copperheads and rattlesnakes.
BE AWARE- We here at VWM&C receive a LOT of calls about baby copperheads but 95% of the calls are not copperheads at all, so here's a picture of an actual baby copperhead and as you can see, it has a very bright yellow or sometimes "greenish" colored tail that slowly disappears as it gets older and that's the quickest and easiest way to distinguish one.
PLEASE share this post with family members and Facebook friends, it could save you, them or your pets life!
Thank you and please be careful out there because we've already been getting a lot of snake calls into our office the past few weeks.
Also, If you encounter any kind of snake, take a picture of it and text it to 804-617-7086 anytime day or night and we'll be more than happy to positively identify it for you and don't forget to visit our website at:

Amazing save!
Pulitzer prize photo...and certainly worthy of that award..
This photo shows two power linemen, Randall Champion and J. D. Thompson, at the top of a utility pole. They had been performing routine maintenance when Champion brushed one of the high voltage lines at the very top. Over 4000 volts entered Champion’s body and instantly stopped his heart (an electric chair uses about 2000 volts). His safety harness prevented a fall, and Thompson, who had been ascending below him, quickly reached him and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He was unable to perform CPR given the circumstances, but continued breathing into Champion’s lungs until he felt a slight pulse, then unbuckled his harness and descended with him on his shoulder. Thompson and another worker administered CPR on the ground, and Champion was moderately revived by the time paramedics arrived, eventually making a full recovery.
