"The education and training of children is among the most meritorious acts of humankind and draweth down the grace and favour of the All-Merciful, for education is the indispensable foundation of all human excellence and alloweth man to work his way to the heights of abiding glory. If a child be trained from his infancy, he will, through the loving care of the Holy Gardener, drink in the crystal waters of the spirit and of knowledge, like a young tree amid the rilling brooks." - Abdul'-Baha

They are so important in the Montessori classroom!

We strive for children to build their reality of life through real experiences and materials instead of the ‘safe’ plastic substitutes.

Things happen in a Montessori classroom and items break. This teaches children to love their materials and with only one-of-a-kind material available, they naturally develop concentration, patience, respect for materials, self-control and precision.

Children can be empowered and allowed to use 'real' things and when we allow this, it shows the child we trust and respect them.

Dr. Montessori emphasized the use of real materials in the classroom. She believed that imagination is the natural inclination of the child and it stems from what is real.

⁣At LOMA we have a Curriculum Focused on 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬-𝐎𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Why?

One of the greatest benefits of the Montessori Method during the early learning experience is the focus on hands-on learning.

Hands-on learning better engages both sides of the brain. Listening and analyzing processes occur in the left hemisphere, but visual and spatial processes are handled on the right.

🖐️ They often say when children have busy hands, they have a busy brain. 🧠

Teachers encourage students to concentrate on tasks and they try to discourage students from interrupting one another in order to allow students to focus on the activities and properly master it.

We believe these important early years prepare a student for the learning experiences that are to come, whether they continue with us at LOMA or move to a public classroom environment in the future. We want them to be prepared!

At LOMA we 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄.

The importance of teaching practical life skills are at the heart of the Montessori Method.

The most ordinary mundane things that we do during our daily routine for a child are wondrous discoveries that can be engaging and thrilling challenges.

Practical life in Montessori helps foster two main areas of development:

💚Care of Self
💚Care of the Environment.

Additional, the Montessori curriculum focuses on a child’s motor control and coordination and helping develop independence, concentration and a sense of responsibility.

Some practical life skills you can start with at home can be as simple as washing hands or putting on shoes or as complicated as polishing silver or making chocolate chip cookies from scratch.

The practical life Montessori curriculum teaches children things they need to learn anyway and at this point in their life, they are motivated to learn.

Designed for toddlers age 16 months to 3 years

The children’s community fosters self respect, independence, understanding of the world and respect for others and the environment. Children cook, clean, garden, dress oneself, wash hands, set that table, wash dishes and all of these help them gain self esteem and respect for the environment and aids in the refinement of movement by developing gross and fine motor skills.

Through simple, imitative tasks, young children will gain a sense of independence as their brains become increasingly adept. Between a child’s first and second birthdays, vocabulary quadruples. This period of language development is called a “sensitive period”. Where learning verbal skills are paramount in a child’s life.
