Yesterday was a FIRST for Hometown Hero CPR… TWO classes in ONE day!

Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch invited HH in to spend the day helping prepare members of their church family, and what a day it was!!

We started the morning with the Non-Certification Friends & Family CPR class for seven church members who simply wanted to LEARN THE SKILLS and become MORE CONFIDENT stepping in during an emergency. (*They literally just had a woman collapse during service the Sunday before who needed a pacemaker 😳).

That afternoon, we transitioned into the AHA Heartsaver Certification class with church employees and volunteers, including their Special Needs Director who organized the day, her husband who volunteers on the Security Team, one of their daughters (who is expecting her first child and wanted the knowledge and peace of mind that comes with being prepared ❤️).

Two different groups. One common goal :

KNOW WHAT TO DO WHEN AN EMERGENCY HAPPENS 🙌💙

📢 And can I tell you guys a secret?

After almost every class I teach, this is what plays in my head:

“Did I explain enough? Did I talk too much? Did they get enough practice or understand the WHY? Will they actually feel confident if they ever need to use these skills?”

And yesterday one of my students unknowingly answered these questions for me. 🥹
He told me:

“You know, your class is different. I’ve taken a few CPR classes over the years and no one ever explained things in length or gave me the opportunity to really get hands-on like you did today. It was really nice to have all that practice time to really walk through all the scenarios.” ❤️❤️❤️

THAT is exactly what I want Hometown Hero CPR to be!!
💙Practice the compressions
❤️Use an AED
💙Work through the scenarios
❤️Ask alllll the questions
💙Make the mistakes and try again.

Because a certification card is important. But CONFIDENCE comes from PRACTICE!

Thank you Lisa with Longview Heights Baptist Church for trusting me and recognizing the value in preparing your church employees, volunteers and family to respond effectively when someone needs them! You are MY HERO 💙

This is what Making the Difference at Home looks like! How can I help you make the difference in yours?

Message HH today to schedule your class! 💙❤️💙

❤️ This is what I hoped Hometown Hero CPR would become.

I never wanted Hometown Hero CPR to be about teaching one class, handing out certifications and saying goodbye. I wanted to build relationships with the people I teach and hopefully see some of those same faces again when it was time to renew.

And yesterday, I got to do exactly that. 🥹

Yesterday was my THIRD time teaching at SouthPoint Church MDO since 2024, and most of my afternoon renewal class was made up of students from that very first Heartsaver class two years ago. 🙌

We started the day with seven brand-new Heartsaver certifications and finished with five renewals!! And somewhere along the way, returning to SouthPoint has started to feel less like simply coming back to teach and more like spending the day with people I’ve genuinely grown to know and care about. ❤️

This group was such a fun mix of ages and experiences including three high school students who spent part of their Saturday learning CPR, AED use, choking response and Emergency Response.

And I just LOVE that. 👏

What does it say about a church when they don’t only want their adults prepared for an emergency, but they’re willing to invest in their teenagers and give them the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills too? Those are skills they’ll carry with them into school, college, jobs, families and communities.

And one of those students gave me one of my favorite moments of the entire day. 😂

We had an odd number during skills check-offs, so I did something I almost never do…

I BECAME THE STUDENT!!

I paired up with him and told him that HE was in charge. His job was to walk me through the scenario and tell me exactly what to do.

Y’all… he nailed it. 🙌

And THAT is one of my favorite things to see as an instructor: not simply memorizing the steps, but understanding them well enough to confidently take charge and guide someone else through an emergency.

We also had an expectant mama preparing to welcome her second child who came with a goal that went beyond earning another certification. She wanted to feel more confident and prepared, not only as part of her church community, but as a mother. 🥹❤️

Because at the end of the day, that’s what all of this is really about.

Certifications expire. Cards get renewed.

But knowing how to recognize an emergency, having the confidence to step forward, and knowing what to do when someone needs you?

THAT is why we train. ❤️

Thank you, SouthPoint Church MDO, for trusting Hometown Hero CPR for the third time to help prepare the people caring for your children and your church family. The relationships that have grown through these classes mean more to me than you know.

Two nurses. Two different paths.
One shared commitment to being ready💙❤️💙

Yesterday’s Blended BLS class was a reminder that every healthcare provider has a different story, but the same responsibility when a life is on the line.

Kara was one of my RETURNING HEROES, coming back to Hometown Hero CPR for her BLS renewal after taking my class two years ago. There really isn’t a greater compliment than someone trusting you with their training again. Thank you, Kara!

Andrea has spent time away from the bedside while working in a clinic setting, but as she prepares to return to direct patient care, she wanted to refresh her skills and build confidence before stepping back into those high-acuity moments.

Throughout the afternoon, these two worked side by side through realistic Code Blue scenarios: rotating compressors, managing the AED, providing ventilations, and communicating as a resuscitation team. They didn’t just memorize an algorithm… they learned how to function together when EVERY SECOND COUNTS.

Watching healthcare professionals sharpen their skills and invest in the people they’ll one day care for is one of my favorite parts of what I do.

A special thank you to Colonial Hills Church for graciously opening your beautiful space for this class. Your hospitality is such a blessing to our community.

Congratulations, Kara and Andrea! It was a joy having you both in class, and I have no doubt your patients will be better because of the time you invested yesterday. ❤️💙

💙✨ Some moments feel like they were choreographed long before they ever happened. 💙✨

This weekend I had the incredible honor of certifying the staff at Center Stage Dance Studio in CPR, AED, and lifesaving skills.
💙What makes this one especially meaningful is that dance has always held a special place in my heart. So walking into a dance studio, not as a student, but as an instructor preparing those who pour into the next generation of dancers, was a true full-circle moment.

💙The story behind it makes me smile even more! A few weeks ago, one of the teens in my CPR class happened to be connected to Center Stage through her mom, who designs costumes for the studio. She shared her experience…and before long, owner Natalie reached out because she wanted her entire staff trained.

That says so much about the heart of this studio.
💙Natalie didn’t wait for an emergency to realize the importance of being prepared. She chose to invest in her instructors so they can confidently respond if the unexpected ever happens. Every parent can have a little more peace of mind knowing their dancers are learning from instructors who are CPR certified and ready to act when it matters most.

Thank you, Natalie, and the entire Center Stage Dance Studio family, for trusting Hometown Hero CPR. It was an honor to spend the afternoon with you.

Here’s to strong dancers, strong instructors…and a community that’s always ready to step in when someone needs help. ❤️🏡

🚑 When Seconds Matter, Training Becomes Instinct ❤️

This past Friday, it was a privilege to train the incredible teams at Total Pain Care
and Magnolia Surgery Center in Adult BLS (Basic Life Support).

One thing that stood out throughout the day was their COMMITMENT, not just to earning a certification, but to being truly PREPARED if a medical emergency ever happens.

Every participant practiced:
❤️ High-quality CPR
⚡ Proper AED use
🫁 Effective ventilation skills
🤝 Team dynamics and communication during a cardiac emergency

What impressed me most wasn’t just their knowledge, it was their willingness to coach one another, ask thoughtful questions, accept feedback, and continue practicing until every skill felt natural.

That mindset is exactly what helps SAVE LIVES!! 🙌

Medical emergencies don’t send a warning before they happen. They require CONFIDENT TEAMS who know how to work together under pressure.

A huge thank you to Total Pain Care and Magnolia Surgery Center for making continuing education and emergency preparedness a priority for your staff. Investing in your team’s training is ultimately an investment in every patient who walks through your doors.

Thank you for trusting Hometown Hero CPR with your training. ❤️🏠

❤️ One of my favorite parts of being a CPR instructor…

Last Friday I had the privilege of teaching another amazing group of students, and once again I was reminded WHY these classes mean so much to me.

Three of the girls signed up together after their parents decided it would be fun for them to learn these skills as friends. (The Taylor Swift playlist during CPR practice may have helped keep things lively. 🤭🎶)

One student told me during class that he thought CPR class sounded “boring.” 😅

BUT when it came time for his skills checkoff…

He absolutely KILLED IT! (No pun intended 🤭)

Strong compressions. Great technique. Confident answers to scenario questions. Not a single correction from me.

Sometimes our kids are capable of so much more than they realize.

Our youngest student impressed me too!He performed CPR with confidence and looked like a natural while practicing infant choking relief.

These moments are WHY I love what I do.

I don’t just teach CPR.

I get to watch young people realize they can stay calm under pressure, think critically, solve problems, and gain the confidence to help someone on what could be the worst day of their life.

As a nurse, those moments never get old.

📣 PARENTS!!!!! If only you could see what I get to witness. Your children are capable of amazing things.

I’m SO thankful God allows me to invest in the next generation in this way. My prayer is that these students never have to use these skills, but if they do, they’ll remember that they are capable.

Thank you to these students and their families for trusting Hometown Hero CPR. I’m incredibly proud of each one of you. ❤️🏡

❤️🤍💙 Memorial Day Weekend ❤️🤍💙

This weekend, Hometown Hero CPR pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Their courage and service will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

I also wanted to let everyone know that I’ll be taking the ENTIRE holiday weekend (plus Monday 😉) to rest, recharge, spend time with family, and enjoy the holiday myself.

That means I will not be scheduling classes, answering business messages right away, or handling renewals until Tuesday.

If you’ve messaged about:
• HH CPR classes
• Teen Heartsaver classes
• Family CPR classes
• BLS renewals/check offs

I promise I’ll get back with you when I return! 💙

As a small business owner, it means so much to have your support and understanding. Thank y’all for keeping Hometown Hero CPR so busy lately… but this girl is officially OFF DUTY for a few days 😅☀️

Have a safe, meaningful, and blessed Memorial Day weekend. 🇺🇸
