Looking around the house for something to sell on Bay, I came across this pair of trashed work boots. They were an unknown brand and size, unlined, cheap quality, dirty, worn out, and the soles were coming apart. My immediate impression was, "I would be embarrassed to list these on eBay." Then something told me, “If you don’t, you’ll always wonder what might have happened.”
So I snapped a few photos and threw a listing together. A week later the boots sold for $96 plus shipping! Altogether, the entire transaction, including shipping, took about an hour of my time.
You just never stop being amazed at how much money people will anxiously pay for something you are ready to toss out.
Then again, you’ve got to remember, you’re reaching out to a market of over 150 Million people in over 60 countries.
I tried swap meets a few times and what I didn’t like is that you could be spending all day selling dollar bills at half price, and people would still be insisting you sell them for a quarter! Plus, you would be lucky to get 50 people to stop and take a look at what you have for sale. Out of those 50 people how many would be interested in your 1950 Kodak slide projector? Last time I checked, though, I discovered that 13 of them were being sold every single day on eBay at an average price of $46 each, some selling for as high as $150. What if your old slide projector doesn't work? No problem. Plenty of eBay buyers will be looking to buy it for spare parts!
Over the years (I’ve been selling on eBay for 14 years), I keep finding unique, creative ideas that help me get top dollar for what I sell on eBay. That’s important, because it takes just as much time and work to make $10 on a $20 sale as it does to make $1,000 on a $2,000 sale.
It’s nice working your own hours, at home, while building your own business. But what gets particularly addictive is making money while you sleep.
Particularly when you can make a $96 profit for an hour of your time.
