Mrs. Bowen was recently awarded the Bushels of Books for her classroom through the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee and the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture!
The goal of Bushels of Books is to place accurate, engaging agriculture books in Oklahoma classrooms and schools to help students understand the true story of farming, ranching, and where our food comes from.
Mrs. Bowen plans to use these books not only with her 2nd and 3rd grade students, but also as a resource to help provide agricultural education opportunities for students throughout PK–8th grade at Ryal.
Agricultural literacy is especially important for our rural and Native students. Agriculture has deep roots in Oklahoma and in many Native communities, where connections to the land, food, livestock, natural resources, and traditional practices continue to play an important role. Giving students opportunities to learn about agriculture helps them better understand their communities, their heritage, and the many ways agriculture shapes our everyday lives.
Ryal students are already familiar with accurate agriculture education thanks to their participation in Read an Accurate Ag Book Week, along with many trips to MackMazing Acres and the generous time donated by the Mackey family to provide our students with meaningful, hands on agricultural learning experiences. These opportunities have helped bring agriculture to life for our students and build on the important connection between the classroom and the agricultural community around them.
We are so excited to put these new books to good use and continue planting seeds of agricultural knowledge throughout our school!
