Board of Education Seeks Nominees to Fill Vacancy

The Rush-Henrietta Board of Education will have an open seat this month and members of the community are invited to apply to fill it.

Rachel Sherman will resign her board seat effective August 27, 2026. We thank her for five years of service to our community. This resignation creates a board vacancy for a term ending June 30, 2027.

The Board of Education will appoint a qualified district resident to fulfill the remainder of this term. If you are interested in serving as a board member, please submit a letter of interest and resume by September 18, 2026. Please forward materials to the attention of District Clerk Cheryl Castronovo, Parker Administration Building, 2034 Lehigh Station Road, Henrietta, NY 14467. You may also contact her via email at [email protected].

Rush-Henrietta is governed by a seven-member Board of Education. These members volunteer for unpaid, three-year terms. As elected representatives of district residents, and as officers of the state of New York, board members carry out duties required by the state Legislature, Board of Regents, and the state Commissioner of Education. The board establishes policies for the operation of the district. The superintendent carries out those policies and manages the day-to-day operations of the district.

All questions and inquiries regarding this vacancy should be directed to District Clerk Cheryl Castronovo at 359-5010 or [email protected]. Thank you!

Board Member Resignation Creates Vacant Seat

During a special meeting held Tuesday, July 28, the Rush-Henrietta Board of Education approved a number of district leadership appointments for the upcoming year. Separately, the board also was notified in writing of the resignation of board member Rachel Sherman.

First elected in 2021, Mrs. Sherman served on the Board of Education for five years. She was re-elected to a second term in 2024. We thank Mrs. Sherman for her service to our school district and community. Being a board member requires a significant commitment and the district appreciates her work as a volunteer in this capacity. Her resignation is effective August 27, 2026.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the community, in addition to it being a labor of love,” Mrs. Sherman said during the meeting when addressing the board and community.

Mrs. Sherman’s departure creates a Board of Education vacancy for a term ending June 30, 2027. The board has a policy (2150) regarding member resignation and the process to formally identify a replacement. Historically, the board has interviewed prospective candidates and made an appointment at the conclusion of that process as opposed to holding a special election.

Board members will discuss publicly the process and a timeline they will follow at their next regularly scheduled meeting. That meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Parker Administration Building, 2034 Lehigh Station Road.

The Rush-Henrietta Central School District is governed by a seven-member Board of Education elected by eligible voters. Members are volunteer public officials who serve without pay for three-year terms. As elected representatives of district residents, and as officers of the state of New York, board members carry out duties required by the state Legislature, Board of Regents, and state Commissioner of Education. The board establishes policies for the operation of the district. The superintendent carries out those policies.

All questions and inquiries regarding this vacancy should be directed to District Clerk Cheryl Castronovo at 359-5010 or [email protected].
