Summer, shmummer! Think “Back-to-School Kickoff!"

It’s the last day of school and we know what’s on the minds of students everywhere: where can I get together with families and educators from across Henrico County and get the 2019-20 school year started in a fun and educational setting? Well, save the date! On Aug. 17 at Henrico County’s Dorey Park, Henrico County Public Schools will hold its second annual Back-to-School Kickoff, with a host of activities to get ready for the new school year!

The divisionwide event is sponsored by Henrico Schools’ Department of Family and Community Engagement, and all Henrico County families are invited to attend.

Back-to-School Kickoff activities include:

- An information fair (vendors with information about family resources).
- School performances throughout the day.
- Dorey Park Farmer’s Market.
- DJ and dance contests.
- Meet and talk with school leaders.
- Kids' activities.
- Merchandise vendors.
- Giveaways.
- Food trucks on site.
- Free books for all ages.
- Free school supplies (first 100 students get a free bookbag).
- Help with using Schoology and PowerSchool.
- Math and reading activities.
- Onsite school registration.
- Complete online forms.
- HCPS job-opportunities booth for prospective teachers, bus drivers and cafeteria workers.

Can Kids Really Get Free Meals Just by Sending a Text Message? All across the country, schools and community groups run summer meals sites where kids can eat breakfast and lunch - absolutely free.

Wear blue Monday, June 3 to unite in solidarity with students, staff and community members across Virginia Beach. Please join us to support those affected by Friday’s events and to honor the 12 lives lost.

8th grade dance tickets go on sale beginning May 24 before school.

Does your child have a favorite teacher? Teacher appreciation week is May 6 -May 11.

7th grade dance is this Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The PTSA is asking for donations of mini water bottles. Please drop them off by the front office. Label it 7th grade dance. Thank you in advance for your help.
