When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse, and wind up changed forever. The kids will perform a shorter version adapted to fit young performers and the skill set of the group.

This Disney musical adaption is centered around a princess, Rapunzel, who has been locked away in a tower since she was captured as a baby by an old woman. Her magical long blonde hair has the power to provide eternal youth, and the evil Gothel uses this power to keep her young. At the age of 18, Rapunzel becomes curious about the outside world, and when a prince uses her tower as a refuge, she asks him to help her escape.

✨ We are thrilled to announce that Megan will be teaching with us regularly during the upcoming 2023-24 season on Wednesdays and Thursdays. She will be teaching Jazz on Wednesdays and Tap, Ballet, and Jazz on Thursdays.✨⁠

Megan Tatum is a musical theatre performer/choreographer based in Richmond, VA. She trained under the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus and graduated from William and Mary with a B.S. in Kinesiology and a B.A. in Integration of Dance, Music, and Theatre Performance. Some favorite performance credits include A Chorus Line at Mill Mountain Theatre, White Christmas at Barter Theatre, Beauty and the Beast and South Pacific at Olney Theatre Center, A Christmas Story at Virginia Repertory Theatre, The Little Mermaid and Legally Blonde at Virginia Musical Theatre, and Celtic Fyre at Busch Gardens. Megan has also interned in New York City with the physical therapy companies that represent the major Broadway and ballet companies. She choreographed many regional productions including Bright Star for which she was nominated for a Richmond Theatre Critics Circle Award. ⁠

Megan loves teaching all styles of dance, especially ballet, musical theatre jazz, and tap. She believes in a creative classroom where students can explore and understand how they learn best. ✨ We are thrilled to welcome Amy Haley as a new faculty member to our Passion Academy team for the 2023-24 Season! ✨⁠

Ms. Haley grew up in Los Angeles, CA, studying ballet and character dance. She continued her training with Toni Lander at Ballet West, Francesca Corkle at The Joffrey Ballet, Gloria Govrin and Lupe Serrano at Pennsylvania Ballet, and master teacher David Howard in NYC. She has performed with The Joffrey Ballet; Los Angeles Ballet; Burklyn Ballet Theatre; Westside Ballet; and Princeton University’s Atelier and Expressions Dance Company.⁠

Ms. Haley began teaching dance at age 16 and has taught ballet, pointe, character dance, and ballet conditioning in Hampton Roads for nine years. She is an American Ballet Theatre® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She also regularly attends The Royal Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet teacher training programs.⁠

In her teaching, Ms. Haley emphasizes musicality, artistry, and conditioning to create and support precise technique. She earned a distinction in Dance Kinesiology with the National Dance Education Organization and is a Flexistretcher® Conditioning Specialist. She has completed Level 1 of Lisa Howell’s Perfect Form Physiotherapy dance teacher training and studied dancers’ foot health with Andrea Zujko of NYC’s Westside Dance Physical Therapy. ⁠

✨ We are thrilled to welcome Danielle Quenneville as a new faculty member to our Passion Academy team for the 2023-24 Season! ✨

A Native of Western MA, Danielle Quenneville began her ballet training at Pioneer Valley Ballet under the direction of Ms. Maryanne Kodzis and Mr. Thomas Vacanti. It was at this facility Danielle had the opportunity to perform leading roles such as Clara in The Nutcracker and Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. Expanding her horizons, Danielle has spent summers training with various ballet schools, including The Rock School of Dance, American Ballet Theater Collegiate Summer Program, and Mercyhurst University Summer Dance Experience.

Recently, Danielle graduated with her BFA from Mercyhurst University under the direction of Ms. Tauna Hunter and Ms. C.Noelle Partusch. Danielle has performed many roles with The Mercyhurst Dancers, most notably including Peasant Pas in Giselle. During her senior year, Danielle had the opportunity to perform with SoMar Dance Works under the direction of Mark and Solvieg Santillano.

We are very proud of Linnea for always challenging herself and for seeking out opportunities to grow in dance. Dancing requires a lot of time, dedication, and perseverance. Setting goals is important and we encourage all of our students to reach for them, whatever they may be! 💫

✨ Passion Academy Performance Ensemble ✨

We are excited to announce a brand new performance-based program at Passion Academy designed for the serious dance student that is desiring to develop his/her artistic skills on a more regular basis, outside of weekly classes.

Students in this ensemble must be dedicated and committed to their dance training. They will learn and rehearse choreography with Passion Academy Dance Director, Sarah Ruppel Bullis, on a weekly basis. They will also have the opportunity to perform this choreography at various performance outlets in the Richmond community throughout the season!

Auditions for Performance Ensemble will be held on Sunday, August 27.
12:30 – 1:00 PM: Parent & Student meeting
1:00 – 2:30 PM: Audition

Students may audition for a spot in the ensemble at the beginning of the season. Students in levels Ballet V and up are eligible to audition at the end of August. (Students in Ballet level IV that have been taking ballet classes 2 days per week since the beginning of the season may audition for the program in January.)

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture. Both are based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved story. Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. is a story about a young mermaid named Ariel, who longs to leave her ocean home and live in the world above by becoming human. She defies her father, King Triton, to make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula. She then must convince Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.

Join us for a week of learning the foundations and basics of tap, while also having fun creating rhythms, tempos and learning your very first tap dance to be performed on the final day.
Whether you’re trying tap for the very first time or taking your tap dancing to the next level, we know you’ll fall in love (or deeper in love) with this exciting style of dance!

Parents will be invited into the studio to view a performance of the choreography learned during the last 15 minutes of the session on Friday.

Events & Summer Camps | Passion Academy Richmond's premier academy for music and dance, offering private music lessons, programs, and dance classes for all ages.

We are a week away from the big performance!!!

There are many volunteer spots that still need filling, particularly during the dress rehearsal and performance times. Please take a moment to take a look at the Sign Up Genius and fill a spot if you have not already signed up for one. If you have a student in both performances, please help us out by volunteering backstage at the performance that you are not watching. You are not limited to only volunteering for your student’s group. You are welcome to be a volunteer for any group! All of the younger children (Ballet IV and under) will be in the same dressing area, so if you are a designated volunteer for another group, you will still be in the same backstage area as your child. Please also note that all of the boys will be together in the same dressing area for the performance, and will need a separate volunteer for their group. Additionally, if you have an older child (14+), we welcome him/her to be a group volunteer, and we are happy to sign for any volunteer hours that your student may receive for volunteering.

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture. Both are based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved story. Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. is a story about a young mermaid named Ariel, who longs to leave her ocean home and live in the world above by becoming human. She defies her father, King Triton, to make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula. She then must convince Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.

Our camp will conclude with a short performance on the final day of camp. The kids will perform twice to accommodate guests in our studio. No matter your child’s experience level, our musical theatre campers are sure to have fun, develop social skills, learn new things, and discover a deeper understand of theatre performance.
