Congratulations to this week's Hawk of the Week - Ms. Bennett! It takes a strong woman to hold down the cafeteria. Ms. Bennett is a ROCKSTAR!! She is constantly circling the cafeteria, helping Tasha clean up between classes, and keeps the cafeteria at a manageable volume. We are so thankful to have her supporting our students at lunch each day! Thank you for all you do for us here at Varina.💙💛

A belated CONGRATULATIONS to the Hawk of the Week for September 25 - 29, Mrs. Fugate! There are so many AMAZING things we could say about Mrs. Fugate! She has gone above and beyond this first month of school. She’s pushing into classrooms, planning with our 5th grade Science/Math teachers, analyzing countless Math and Science assessments, helping to plan quality instruction for our learners and steering the HAWK Buck Cart when we need her. She’s been spotted at after school events like Back to School Nights and Sneaker Balls as well! Thank you Mrs. Fugate for being one of our top notch Instructional Coaches here at Varina!💛💙

So many Positive Office Referrals this past week it took three pictures to get them all in! We also FILLED the Principal’s 100 board! We usually clear it when we get 10 in a row and start over but this time we had so many we actually filled all 100 spots! So proud of these kids!

Our Book Vending Machine took its maiden voyage today! Y’all Ms. Whittemore (library assistant) was so excited!!!! She stood there and cheered for everyone! Congrats to these Positive Office Referral peeps who got to use the machine for the first time!!

Thank you to the Henrico Education Foundation for awarding our school a grant that will help us SOAR in science. Funds will be used for a school-wide bird house building project in the spring. Congratulations to this week's Hawk of the Week - Mr. Stewart! Mr. Stewart has been an excellent addition to our VES Staff. He’s jumped right in as our Car Rider Chief, made connections with students and families, and gotten field trips and family life already on the calendar. He’s been spotted grabbing a broom when clean up is needed, running an awesome PBIS hoop station, and offered supplies and assistance to our adaptive PE teacher. Thank you Mr. Stewart for jumping right in and being such a positive person for our VES students and staff. 💛💙

Congratulations to our HAWK OF THE WEEK, Ms. Duncan! Ms. Duncan has jumped right in and implemented some awesome ideas and strategies in her classroom. She’s created a positive place for learning, greets her students with a smile each morning and contributes fully to team planning. Ms. Duncan has worked hard at establishing procedures and expectations in her classroom and collaborated with our special education teacher to make sure all her students' needs are being met. We are so glad you said yes to Varina! 💛💙

Congratulations to our Hawk of the Week, Ms. Byrd! Ms. Byrd has stepped up tremendously over the past few weeks while Mrs. Kosiarski has been training and learning. She took on extra responsibilities at the start of the year and helped make sure everything was in place for a successful August and September. She’s been juggling all the registrar responsibilities and lots of financial responsibilities, too. All these extra things on her plate have only made her smile bigger! We would be lost without you Ms. Byrd. Thank you for all you do for Varina ES and congrats on being HAWK OF THE WEEK!💙💛
