Jane Thompson Burge, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, at the age of 96, in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude Neville Thompson and George Watson Thompson; her husband, Walter Young Burge III; her beloved daughter, Sallie Burge Winter; and her sister, Margaret Thompson Lewis. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Burge Rhodes (Glenn) and Susan Burge Walls (Brian); four grandchildren, John Glenn Rhodes, Jr. (Mackenzie), Margaret Neville Rhodes, Alexander Spence Winter, and Brian Austin Walls (Mackenzie); and three cherished great-granddaughters, Ella Margaret Rhodes, Olivia Grace Walls, and Sallie Mae Rhodes. Jane was born in Petersburg, Virginia, raised in Amherst, Virginia, and attended Sweetbriar College and Mary Washington University. Upon receiving her BA degree and teaching certification, she spent more than 30 years in service to various public school systems, primarily in the Richmond area, teaching English and History. Upon her retirement, Jane enjoyed travel with her husband and family, spending time with her many dear friends, frequent visits to the beach, antiquing, and feeding her voracious appetite for reading and current events. Jane was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served for years as a trusted member of the Board at The Tuckahoe Condominium, a National Historic Landmark. Visitation will be held at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue on Wednesday, February 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 19, at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Linda Sheffield Hollomon Sydnor Obituary
Linda Sheffield Hollomon Sydnor, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the age of 81.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Iva Crenshaw Cole Hollomon and Edward Forrest Hollomon, and her beloved husband, William Dunnington Sydnor. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathryn Sheffield Sydnor Witt, her son-in-law, Walter Francis Witt III, and her cherished grandson, William Mason Witt.
Linda was born in Arlington, Virginia then later moved to Blackstone, Virginia. She was a proud alumna of Longwood University, where she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. After graduating, Linda dedicated many years to teaching history at Tuckahoe Middle School.
Linda was a member of the Jamestowne Society, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, and The Tuckahoe Woman's Club. She also previously served on the board of the Valentine Museum.
A memorial visitation will be held in Linda's memory at Bliley's Funeral Home, located at 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond, VA, on Friday, August 15th, from 4 - 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Linda's memory to St. Christopher's School, 711 St. Christopher's Road, Richmond, VA 23226.

Katharine Lois Clark, 82, of Mechanicsville, VA, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025.
Born in White Plains, NY, to Tac and Lois Clark, Kathy lived a life marked by her faith in God and an unwavering commitment to serving others.
She is survived by her devoted brothers, Tom (Linda), Bob (Patsy), and Jeff (Sydney) and her beloved nieces and nephews, Cindy (Tim), Wendy (Michael), Amy (Thomas), Tim (Bita), Jonathan (Rachel), Christie (Wyatt), and Tarah (Rahul) and many precious great and great-great nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was predeceased by her parents and her nephew, Brad Clark.
Kathy's passion for the arts and love for singing led her to the stage as an actress at Barksdale Theatre in Hanover. She was also a dedicated educator, helping to shape the lives of many students over 44 years of teaching in Richmond City, Philadelphia, Vermont, and Henrico County.
Most notable was Kathy's authentic faith, lived out with humility and generosity. She took seriously the Lord's command to serve others and joyfully gave her time and resources to her church, Catholic Charities, the Henrico prison ministry, Feed More, the National Wildlife Federation, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Wounded Warrior Project, among others. Kathy traveled extensively, setting foot on every continent except Antarctica, embracing and appreciating different cultures along the way.
Yet, with all the places she visited, Kathy's heart was always at home with her family and friends. She leaves a legacy of love, faith, and kindness in the countless lives she touched.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 8200 Woodman Rd. Richmond, VA 23228, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at noon followed by interment at Signal Hill Memorial Park at 2 PM.

Cleveland George Grizzard, Jr., 83, of Richmond, passed away at his home Sunday, December 15, 2024. "C.G." loved baseball and was a coach at Tuckahoe Middle School for 32 years. He loved hunting, was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Cleveland George Grizzard, Sr. and Fredora Verlander Grizzard; sister, Barbara Kelly; and granddaughter Lindsey Grizzard Braun.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Grizzard; son, Robert (Kathy) Grizzard; daughter, Amy (Luther) Wright; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Grizzard, Josh Press, Emma Press, and step-grandson Ryan Cowell.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. on January 18, 2025, at the Masonic Home of Virginia Chapel, 500 Masonic Ln, Richmond, VA 23223. Reception to follow.

ELAYNE BALIFF FUNERAL INFORMATION:
We regret to inform you of the passing of Elayne Baliff on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
Elayne died of complications following pulmonary illnesses. She is survived by her twin children, her daughter, Elizabeth Baliff (David Bally) of Brooklyn, New York and their daughter Emma; her son, Jonathan (Barbara) Baliff of Houston, Texas and their children Noah, Sam, and Eve; her brother, Ira (Frances) Marks of Highland Park, New Jersey and son, Brendan, and oldest son, Thomas Marks and wife Sloane of Richmond, Virginia.
A graveside service will be held at Hebrew Cemetery (4th St. & Hospital St.) on Tues. April 2, 2024 at 11:00am. The family will be receiving Shiva visitors in Richmond on April 2, 2024 at The Jefferson Hotel (101 West Franklin St.), in Room 631 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. All are welcome to attend the funeral and shiva gathering.

Marilyn Royal
(Elise) Hinson, a highly distinguished and regarded educational leader, concluded her earthly exploration on Friday, November 24, 2023, leaving behind a legacy as vast as the universe she inspired her students to explore. Born on October 28, 1959, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late William (Bill) and Geneva Murray, Marilyn's life was an eloquent symphony of love, compassion, and selfless service.
A trailblazing force in education, Marilyn graduated from Morgan State University in 1981 and commenced a remarkable 42-year career with Henrico County Public Schools. Her roles as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director showcased her dedication to the improvement of others, with the principalship (Wilder and Tuckahoe Middle Schools) holding a special place in her heart.
An active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Upsilon Omega Chapter, and the Richmond Chapter of the Epicureans (Eppies), Marilyn devoted herself to uplifting the community and fostering meaningful connections.
Preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Keith Hinson, Marilyn is survived by her beloved son, DonaldWilliam Murray Hinson (Melissa), whom she cherished endlessly; sister, Carolyn Montgomery (Paul); aunt, Lucille M. Brown; first cousins, Theodore Brown and Alonzo Murray (Dana); a host of other cousins in New York and South Carolina, and her fur babies Gabby, Bruno, and Nala.
Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023 followed by the family receiving friends from 6 until 7 p.m. in Scott's Chapel, 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 9 at Garland Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Garland Avenue. Dr. Jeffery O. Smith officiating. Interment private.
