As a foundation, we do more than just provide additional funding for public education; we are innovators working in partnership with parents, teachers and administrators, continually identifying and developing initiatives that improve school performance and student achievement. Our program and funding priorities focus on implementing research-based initiatives that enhance learning in the classroom, create best practices and complement the Henrico County Public Schoolsโ€™ (HCPS) improvement plans.

Did you know there are more than 1.7 million nonprofit organizations throughout the U.S. that work hard every day to help improve their communities? Most everyone has benefited in some way from the work of a nonprofit. At HEF, we see firsthand, every day, the impact of our work with students in Henrico County Public Schools and we are encouraged to work even harder to help students succeed.

August 17th is National Nonprofit Day โ€“ a day to recognize the impact and value of nonprofit organizations throughout the nation. We celebrate our staff, partners, volunteers, and donors because we canโ€™t do this without YOU!

Nonprofits:
โ€ข Make a positive impact on individuals and communities
โ€ข Unite people for a common good or to address difficult challenges
โ€ข Create jobs
โ€ข Count on your generosity and involvement

Will you give a gift to HEF today to support students in Henrico County Public Schools?

Over the last 30 years, weโ€™ve raised millions to support students in Henrico County Public Schools(HCPS). Weโ€™re leading the way in showing how education foundations can play meaningful roles in the development and implementation of high-quality programming for our communityโ€™s children. We fund creative instructional approaches with strong academic goals that directly address the opportunity gap, and we provide resources for teachers to support the most vulnerable students.

Our vision is: All schools are strong. All students are prepared.

The heart of everything we do is focused on this vision.

In the coming months, we'll share some of the many ways our foundation has impacted HCPS students, schools and teachers in the last three decades. We'll talk about the ways you can celebrate with us, get involved, and make an impact. Weโ€™ll also look ahead to the possibilities in the next 30 years.

We believe in a future where all schools are strong, and all students are prepared. To that end, we work tirelessly to bring growth opportunities to schools and students to prepare them for success in their future endeavors.

Stay tuned for 30th anniversary events, challenges, prizes, stories of impact, and opportunities to celebrate with us!

Together we can Ignite a Brighter Future.

HEF would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Chief Executive Officer Damon Jiggetts!
Read Damon's bio to learn more about him:

Damon has made a career of servant leadership. As Executive Director of Peter Paul for over 11 years, he and his team of educators and community development professionals had the pleasure of serving at times, over 350 children, families, and community members daily, in the East End of Richmond. During his tenure, the organization expanded its footprint from 1 to 6 locations, completed a $5.5 million campaign, eliminated debt of over $1 million, and partnered with an array of organizations to support the needs of its students and families.

Damonโ€™s career began with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Roanoke Valley, where he was responsible for establishing school-based Clubs. His experience with the Clubs shaped his purpose for supporting youth initiatives and launched his profession in youth development.

Prior to Peter Paul, Damon served as Vice President of Operations for Communities in Schools of Richmond, the national organizationโ€™s first fully accredited affiliate. During his time there, CIS expanded its reach throughout Richmond Public Schools and into Henrico County Public Schools.

His passion for the well-being of youth has fueled his efforts to address barriers that prohibit non-profit professionals and community leaders from fulfilling their passion and purpose.

Damon has founded or co-founded numerous initiatives, organizations, and networks. Most recently, Damon launched Red Wagon Youth Transportation Services, a for-profit service, primarily transporting youth to and from extracurricular activities throughout the region. He also co-founded Ujima Legacy Fund, which is a giving circle of Black men who contribute their financial resources to support educational initiatives serving youth throughout the region. He also co-founded the African American Nonprofit Leaders Coalition, which personally and professionally supports Black executives, while addressing matters relevant to their collective experience in the sector.

Damon is a recipient of LMRโ€™s Servant Leadership Award in 2017, the Wallace Stettinius Award for Non-profit Excellence in 2014, and the Virginia Center of Inclusive Communities Humanitarian of the Year Award in 2020.

Henrico County Public Schools will participate in the U.S. Department of Agricultureโ€™s Summer Food Service Program, offering meals to children during the summer at 25 area sites. The federal program is administered in Henrico by the HCPS Department of School Nutrition Services, to help ensure that children receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.
