AGCVA partners with Henrico County Public Schools for major workforce development initiative
HENRICO COUNTY, Va., Feb. XX, 2025 — The Associated General Contractors of Virginia will announce a groundbreaking partnership with Henrico County Public Schools to expand career opportunities in the construction industry. The trade association will host a press conference Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Advanced Career Education Center at Hermitage to unveil details of the collaboration.
A key component of the partnership is a student-led commercial construction project that will provide HCPS’ Advanced Career Education students with hands-on experience at an active construction site — their own school. The opportunity will help students develop essential skills while establishing connections with potential employers in the construction industry.
AGCVA members have committed to supporting students by providing industry-aligned instruction, materials, equipment and mentorship opportunities. The initiative will serve as a model for workforce development, demonstrating how strong partnerships between industry and education can address workforce shortages and change perceptions of careers in construction.
The project is slated to begin in spring 2025. It will include two phases, each lasting approximately one year. AGCVA members will mentor students and contribute resources, but additional industry partners are still needed to ensure the project’s success.
