Sliding into the weekendโฆ ๐Congratulations on finishing your first week, Lions! ๐๐๐๐งก๐โค๏ธ
Today, we are celebrating the feast day of ๐House Ancora๐, our guardians of hope.
The virtue of hope, given to us through baptism, sustains us at all times with the truth that Jesus remains with us, even when all reason for hope seems absent. Hope offers to us joy and courage, and allows us to live, grow and persevere in faith. As an anchor safely holds a ship securely, so Christ is our anchor because He is our hope of salvation. St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!
Kindergarten's annual tour of the school to search for their class mascot was an overwhelming success. They visited the reading room, principal's office, clinic, library, art, PE, playground, music room, and front office before they finally found their friendly monster back in their very own classroom with some treats for our students! They will each enjoy a weekend with him at home over the course of the school year so that their mascot can get to know them better. ๐พ
Check out the comments for a video of the moment KA finally found their buddy!
It was wonderful to be back at Mass together this morning!
โThe last will be first, and the first will be lastโ (Matthew 20:16) is a perfect reflection on how we should live out our Service discipleship trait.
Welcome home, Lourdes Lions! ๐๐ฆ๐คEvery one of you is such a blessing to our school community, and we are so excited for what this year will bring- how you will change and help each other grow. ๐๐๐๐งก๐โค๏ธ
Let's get started! ๐
Diocese of Richmond Catholic Schools
Meet the teacher day! We cannot wait to have all of these smiling faces back again tomorrow!
We love seeing all of the successes achieved by our Lourdes alumni! Matthew Waidelich โ22 was on WTVR CBS 6 Newsโs Battle of the Brains as the captain of his high school team.
If you are a Lourdes alum, we want to hear from you in the comments- what excites you, how do you make a difference, where are you now?
We are so lucky to live in a state where we can experience history firsthand.

Nurturing and then releasing butterflies is always a favorite kindergarten science project! ๐ฆ
Safety first! We are so grateful for our partnership with and for the annual training that our SRO, Officer Funn, provided for us today. Our students safety will always be our top priority.
House Ministerium talked about all of the ways they can spread love. ๐
"In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." -Galatians 5:22-23
Our school and church faculty and staff spent the morning on retreat, learning about and reflecting on the Eucharist and the beauty and joy to be found within. โ๏ธ
Our 5th graders may always seem really apprehensive about Dancing Classrooms when each session starts, but they end up growing so much and having a great time. ๐๐บ
We are SO happy to have our faculty and staff all back together again and are looking forward to a great year! ๐๐๐๐งก๐โค๏ธ
4th grade did a fantastic job dancing the Virginia Reel! ๐๐บ
Today's is to Bishop Foley's visit to Lourdes in 1987-88.

Our houses worked in groups playing a game of pick-up sticks to find all of the things they could be grateful for: a person, a food, a place, an animal. What are you grateful for today?
๐
How can you shine your light today?
Today's is to the 2017 Battle of the Books. ๐

During the last week of school, our 8th graders took the Madagascar challenge, designing and building a catapult capable of launching a toy animal. ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ

Dear Heavenly Father, how my heart bends before You in humility and true gratitude for all the numerous blessings You have showered upon me, for the life You have given me, and the way You have supported and cared for me, for which I thank You.
Thank You for my family and friends, my town and church, and all the great ways You have led and guided us through both joyful and sad moments in our lives.
Thank You for the magnificent world into which we have been placed and the beauties that surround us, the sea and the sky, the hills and the valleys โ for all the delights that You have abundantly placed in our life.
Amen.
Today's is a picture we found from 1998-99 where one of our students was just hanging around.

Seminarian Matt worked with our 5th graders on a presentation on the Resurrection of Jesus. We will miss him and wish him well as he returns to seminary to finish his studies on the way to the priesthood! โ๏ธ
Our middle school students serve 10 hours each semester, finding ways to make a difference in their communities. Here are some ambitious 6th graders organizing used crayons for recycling. How can you make a difference in the lives of others today?

Heavenly Father,
you have given us the model of life
in the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Help us, O Loving Father,
to make our family another Nazareth
where love, peace and joy reign.
May it be deeply contemplative,
intensely Eucharistic,
revived with joy.
Help us to stay together in joy
and sorrow in family prayer.
Teach us to see Jesus in the members of our families,
especially in their distressing disguise.
May the Eucharistic heart of Jesus
make our hearts humble like his
and help us to carry out our family duties
in a holy way.
May we love one another
as God loves each one of us,
more and more each day,
and forgive each otherโs faults
as you forgive our sins.
Help us, O Loving Father,
to take whatever you give
and give whatever you take with a big smile.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, cause of our joy: Pray for us.
St. Joseph: Pray for us.
Holy Guardian Angels, be always with us, guide and protect us. Amen.
-St. Teresa of Calcutta
Today's goes WAY back to ancient times... 3rd grade's ancient civilizations presentation was amazing this year!

A current view from inside our school. Believe it or not, this is a photo of tremendous progress being made. Good-bye and good riddance to all asbestos on campus, once and for all!
Exciting news! Mrs. Collins' 6th grade (rising 7th) language arts classes are semifinalists to receive the Student Treasures Publications National Book Challenge grant for the books of poetry, The Gift of Friendship and Best Friends, they published this year. Congratulations, students!

Almighty God, you have generously made known to man the mysteries of your life through Jesus Christ your Son in the Holy Spirit. Enlighten my mind to know these mysteries which your Church treasures and teaches.
Move my heart to love them and my will to live in accord with them. Give me the ability to teach this Faith to others without pride, without ostentation, and without personal gain.
Let me realize that I am simply your instrument for bringing others to the knowledge of the wonderful things you have done for all your creatures. Help me to be faithful to this task that you have entrusted to me. Amen.
-St. Charles Borromeo

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
-St. Francis of Assisi
Today's is to our 2017 Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader challenge. Are you well-versed enough in our Catholic faith to win against our Lourdes students?
Outstanding academics, a committed community, and the way each child is nurtured, grows, and thrives. These are just a few of the things that make Lourdes special. ๐๐๐๐งก๐โค๏ธ
