Every May, I get emotional looking through the graduation posts, getting invited to graduation parties, and celebrating the milestones of high school and college. I think to myself, I knew them when:

When School was hard, and answers were needed
When parents were worried that this day would not come
When they lacked confidence
When they wanted to give up
When they didn't believe that they were smart
When the parents felt hopeless but were given hope

For anyone out there who is in the middle of the hard, hang on! Your day will come, and the celebration will be sweeter!

To all of the graduates of 2023, you did it! I knew you would! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey.

Sometimes you just know it is time to start something new and trust the magic of new beginnings. I have rewritten this post a dozen times, trying to figure out how to begin, continue, and end.

One thing I love about the changing of seasons is that they happen whether we are ready or not. They have a way of forcing us to accept and move forward. I suspect that if we were responsible for changing the seasons, very few of us would change them at all. Change is scary, it’s hard, and it is a risk.

I say all this to announce a new season for myself and The Cognitive Emporium. The business will no longer function as it was and will now be an online space for resources. A space where I hope to keep writing blogs and, eventually, provide valuable digital content. For now, I have chosen to make a career shift that will allow me more time to be creative and find other ways to serve this community.

Thank you for supporting this organically grown business. We changed a lot of lives, and you changed mine.

Today is a great day to stop and ask yourself what matters to you? Are you serving in the area that matters most to you? Are you a placeholder, or are you making a difference? We were born with unique gifts that can make a difference in this world.
When you tap into those gifts, others benefit.

If your child exhibits red flags in learning, take notice. Don’t panic. It may be a skill they missed and just need extra practice. Look at the skill, google ways to improve….(insert whatever skill they are weak in) and offer them a variety of ways to learn this skill. IF you see them truly struggling and not grasping the concept, then it is time to talk to their teacher, a specialist in the field, and find answers. The best thing that you can do is identify and address the issue. The worst thing you can do is ignore it and tell yourself that they will eventually get it.
