Here are pics of the cavern end in the venomous system. And a pic of the colored scorpion fish resting there.

According to unofficial statistics, as most encounters go unreported, there are roughly 300 injuries from stone fish in the USA annually. Many from aquarium encounters. This is mostly due to these fish living in sub tropical waters in Caribbean areas. The fish carry a powerful venom in their dorsal spines and many encounters happen as divers and aquarists do not see the fish and either step on or place their hand on the fish. Deaths from interactions are rare, but a few have been noted. Records show most occurring in indigenous subtropical inhabitants.

These fish are masters of camouflage as you can see. An adult fish can grow up to 16” long which would pack a powerful sting!

I hope you do a bit more data finding and open your world to the water!

Happy Tuesday!

We anted you to meet two of our new resident crabs, The long legged Sally Lightfoot and the stocky pitho!

Both have a diet made up of mainly algae, but the Sally will scavenge on dead animals.

Sally can grow to around 5” across and will turn a beautiful red color as an adult.
She will start her journey with us in the Tide Pool.

Pitho will stay much smaller averaging 2” and has been known to decorate its exoskeleton! One pitho will live in the mangrove system and the other in the grass beds.

Both of these little crabs are important for a healthy ecosystem.

Have share our great day! We started off the morning with a delightful senior group from the Gables in Greenville. Th time went so fast joking and talking sharks, meeting many animals and then having a mermaid do the small shark feed for them!

Best time ever!

And then a fun day with guests and an amazing young boy who came to spend his birthday with us! Chris gave him extra attention with the reptiles this young man loves!

Thanks team for a smashing day!
