Rachel Saari has spent more than two decades helping solve some of the most challenging v***r intrusion mitigation projects in the industry.

As a Professional Engineer, NRPP-certified mitigation specialist, and technical expert with Arcadis, she has developed innovative approaches to mitigating large and complex buildings while helping advance best practices across the profession.

Rachel volunteers because she believes knowledge should be shared.

Having learned the value of NRPP mitigation training early in her career, she now contributes to standards development and professional education so that future v***r intrusion mitigators, consultants, and engineers can benefit from the same tools and guidance.

What if a school’s radon levels rise when the HVAC shuts down — and fall again when ventilation starts?

Dallas Jones explores what happens when continuous radon monitors are deployed in every ground-contact room, creating high-resolution hourly data that can reveal patterns traditional integrated measurements may miss.

In recent school surveys, those patterns helped teams identify relationships between HVAC operation, building pressure, and radon — and, in some cases, make operational adjustments that reduced radon levels without the need for sub-slab depressurization.

Free radon test kits sound like an easy way to increase testing. But do people actually use them?

Researchers from the University of North Dakota put that question to the test in a nine-month randomized controlled trial involving 112 participants.

Participants ordered radon test kits through a smartphone app, with researchers comparing free kits versus kits requiring a $5 co-pay.

The response was impressive: 87.5% ordered a kit, and 69.4% of those who ordered returned it for laboratory analysis. There was no significant difference between the free and co-pay groups.

And the study raised another interesting question: could community connection have played a role in such strong participation?
