Historic Johnson Farm and are excited to offer a day of professional development for teachers on September 21. RootEd in Food & Farm works with teachers, students, and community partners to solve challenges while learning their course content. We know school just started, but HCPS traditional calendar students will have teacher workdays on Friday, October 9 and Monday, October 12. This year, we will be offering School's Out Workday Camps on many of these teacher workdays. Similar to our summer day camps, these will be one day camps where kids can hang out at the farm and participate in a variety of activities like crafts, games, visiting the animals, and more! Space will be limited, so sign up for one or both of the October days now!

47 Girl Scouts attended the farm's Girl Scout Day on Saturday.
Daisies earned their Trail Adventure and Animal Observer badges. Brownies earned their Bugs badge. Juniors earned their Flowers badge, and Cadettes earned their Trees badge. It was a great day with lots of happy scouts!

Another opportunity for homeschoolers-this time for middle and high schoolers!

October 29 from 10 AM-2 PM will be Middle and High School Homeschool Day. There will be three rotations: Forest Therapy (mindfulness in nature activities), Orienteering (using a map and compass to find checkpoints), and a fiber craft with the Heritage Weavers & Fiber Artists.

The last forest therapy session of the summer is coming up, and you don't want to miss it!

What is forest therapy like at the farm?
It is a slow guided nature experience designed to help busy minds unplug, destress and experience the rhythm of nature among the farm's 100+ year old trees.

Step into a slower pace of life with gentle, guided walks through our peaceful fields and woods. No strenuous hiking or fitness gear required- this experience focuses entirely on helping you unplug, quiet your mind and soak in nature through your senses. You will leave feeling deeply grounded, refreshed and reconnected to yourself and the beauty of late summer here in the mountains.

Calling all homeschooling families: It is time to sign up for Historic Johnson Farm's Fall Homeschool Day!

What: This is our typical field trip program reserved just for homeschoolers. Participants will take a guided tour of the historic farm house, learn from the Heritage Weavers & Fiber Artists, take a wagon ride, visit the farm animals, and play historic games. Adults are required to stay with their child(ren) at all times; this is not a drop-off event.

Who: Homeschool families. The program is geared towards elementary aged participants. We understand that families may have younger and/or older children, and they are more than welcome to attend; however, the material will be geared to an elementary aged audience.

When: Wednesday, September 23 with arrival between 9:40 AM-9:55 AM. We will start the rotations promptly at 10 AM and finish around 12 PM. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to eat after the program.

Today, Bea visited the farm from Blue Ridge Humane Society. Bea is a 6 year old squishy and sweet girl who seemed to prefer pets over treats. This week, the farm is hosting its first ever camp solely for children of Henderson County Public School employees. As their parents are busy with teacher workdays in preparation for back to school, this camp gives them time to prep without worrying about childcare.

Today, campers painted, made butterflies out of coffee filters, picked veggies and flowers from the garden, visited the animals, toured the farm house, and more!
