The School of Education is pleased to welcome their newest faculty member, Dr. Roxanne Loyless. Dr. Loyless earned her bachelor’s degree in English from The University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Her career in special education began as a paraprofessional, where her experiences with students with disabilities led her to pursue a master’s degree in special education with a focus on inclusive practices at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. She then began her professional career as a special education teacher and inclusion facilitator working primarily in rural educational settings.

While teaching and working in public schools in Oklahoma, Dr. Loyless continued her education in school counseling and educational leadership and subsequently served as a school counselor, special education director, and assistant principal. She later earned her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Kansas, where she was a graduate fellow with Project LEAP (Preparing Leaders to Create Ambitious Educational Programs for Students with Severe Disabilities: Beyond De Minimis) through the University of Kansas Center on Disabilities (KUCD). Her research focuses on advancing inclusive education and teacher preparation for students with extensive support needs by examining how educational placements, instructional methods, and educator beliefs shape literacy opportunities and student outcomes.
