English has a way of keeping young readers on their toes.

Just when children think they've figured out vowel sounds, along comes R to change the rules. Words like car, bird, fork, and turn don't sound the way they expect, and that's completely normal.

These are called R-controlled vowels, and learning them helps children recognize patterns instead of feeling like every new word is a surprise.

The more children understand why words sound the way they do, the more confident they become when reading unfamiliar words. 💛

Reading together is one of the greatest gifts you can give your child. It builds connection, curiosity, and a lifelong love of books.

If reading continues to feel difficult, it doesn't mean you've done anything wrong.

Some children need more than exposure to books, they need direct instruction that teaches them how words work. Once those foundational skills begin to click, reading becomes less of a struggle and more of a skill they can rely on.

The combination of your encouragement and the right instruction can be incredibly powerful. Keep showing up, keep believing in them, and remember that progress is possible. 💛
