Cultivating the Genius of Black Children: Strategies to Close the Achievement Gap in the Early Years

Read it today UnitedBlackLibrary.com

There has been much attention given to the achievement gap between white and minority students, especially African American children. Through research and years of experience, the author breaks down the cultural influences on children's learning styles and provides a practical approach to helping black children thrive in the classroom.
For black children, which Sullivan defines as those of African descent, there is a disconnect between learning preferences and learning environments that must be bridged before the achievement gap can be closed. This hands-on resource is filled with effective strategies and best practices to help early childhood educators expand their """"toolbox""""?or supporting children.?Increasing cultural intelligence will allow us to work across the many differences in our classrooms. As our schools become more diverse, cultural competency will be an increasingly important skill for teacher's efficacy and children's success. By cultivating the individual genius of each child and meeting?hildren where they are today, we can invigorate the education system and provide children high-quality early education experiences.

The history of AIDS isn’t as clear-cut as we’re often told. Many researchers and medical historians have raised troubling questions about its origins.

Documents and testimony point to U.S. military labs like Fort Detrick, Maryland. known for biological warfare research, as key sites where retroviruses were studied, including HTLV-1 (a human leukemia virus) and Visna (a sheep virus).

These viruses were known to damage the immune system, and some scientists believe their combination may have given rise to HIV.

Adding to the controversy, Dr. Hilary Koprowski of the Wistar Institute oversaw experimental polio vaccine campaigns across Africa in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Critics argue that these trials, involving over a million people, may have been the pathway by which a lab-created virus entered human populations.

Whether one agrees with this theory or not, the fact remains: the origins of HIV/AIDS are surrounded by secrecy, conflicting accounts, and suppressed debate.

These questions deserve open discussion instead of dismissal.
