Can a shirt be a deterrent?
Some may think “yes, I can choke you with it” and that would be a valid point. However, I’m talking from a psychological standpoint. In my past women’s self-defense workshops, I cover nonverbal, non-physical, and psychological jiu jitsu tactics. I tell our female students that when they’re traveling alone, jogging alone, working out alone, or simply shopping… Wear a jiu jitsu T-shirt or sweatshirt. Almost every male on the planet knows and understands what Brazilian jiu jitsu is. Simply wearing a jiu jitsu T-shirt send a nonverbal, psychological message that says “touch me and your first lesson is free!!! If you don’t believe me ask our very own Dana Roy. Whenever she’s traveling she always wears her Scott Audas Jiu Jitsu Academy Henderson, KY competition team sweatshirt. She will tell you that the amount of comments from men are many. AND… if you ever trained with Dana, then you know the FAFO is real!!!That also tells me how many creeps notice it and don’t make comments. My guess is they might be thinking that this chick‘s gonna be a problem and I probably should look for a more non-assuming victim. So ladies… If you train, I would encourage you to purchase more jiu jitsu related T-shirts and proudly wear them out. Also, if you go to an IBJJF tournament (compete or spectate) they sell past tournament T-shirts for only $10. The bad guy doesn’t know if you competed or not! 👊
If there are any ladies that have a common story on this subject, then I would love to hear it!
Don’t be an unassuming person!!! The world is a bad place. Come train with us!
