35 years ago, the Chinese government murdered 10s of thousands of unarmed Chinese citizens(mostly students) at Tiananmen Square.
The first picture was taken at the beginning of the hunger strike in a pro-democracy protest before military tanks were used to crush and murder people.

Imagine being jailed for even mentioning this atrocity. Imagine, decades later, a picture of you winning a gold metal inadvertently becoming a symbol of protest and being scrubbed from the internet and becoming controversial enough to end people's careers and livelihoods.
The second picture was taken of 2 Chinese athletes embracing after their 100m hurdle race in 2023. Because the numbers 6 and 4(June 4th) are represented in the race lane numbers through this picture, it became a symbol of remembrance for the massacre that occurred more than 30 years earlier.

The 3rd picture is the most famous of them all. "Tank Man," as it's affectionately known, was taken the day after the massacre. A symbol of peaceful protest that has been used in many representations since this date. Illegal in China.

Remember what makes this Constitutional Republic different from the rest of the world.
