Friday, June 19th, 2026, may have been a federal holiday, but the sewing machines at the Rusk County Extension Office apparently did not get the memo!
Our Quilts of Valor Sew Day kicked off at 2:30 p.m. and continued until the job was done. Thanks to the dedication of our moms and volunteers, the final stitches were sewn, and all five quilt tops are now complete. Their talent, teamwork, and determination turned fabric and thread into something much greater—a heartfelt tribute to those who have served our country.
With the sewing phase behind us, we now have dates set to travel to Shelby County, Texas, where we will join our friends to quilt all five Quilts of Valor. After that, we’ll bring them home for the final step: binding each quilt and preparing them for presentation.
As with any worthwhile project, progress comes one stitch at a time. We are nearing the finish line and are honored to be working toward recognizing five deserving Rusk County veterans this year.
Thank you to every volunteer who has shared their time, talents, laughter, and love along the way. The quilts may be made of fabric, but the true thread running through each one is gratitude.
Stay tuned—we’re not finished yet, but we’re getting closer with every stitch! 🇺🇸🧵❤️💙🍀

📸 Scenes from a wonderful evening on June 16, 2026, at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s Cooking Well for a Healthy Blood Pressure — Lesson 2!
The evening’s lesson focused on grocery store shopping 🛒 and learning how to identify foods that are high in sodium 🧂, helping participants make informed choices that support healthy blood pressure.
Participants also rolled up their sleeves and worked together in groups for a hands-on recipe preparation activity, gaining practical skills for creating healthy, delicious meals at home.
Learning, healthy food preparation, and fellowship were all rolled into one enjoyable evening. Thank you to everyone who joined us! We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming lessons.
This program is sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension–Rusk County, the Rusk County Health Department, and the Rusk County L.E.A.N. Coalition.
