Hofstra Law recently gathered to celebrate the generosity of Col. E. David Woycik Jr. ’77, JD ’79 and Carolyn Sanchez Woycik and dedicate one of their gifts to the Law School – two commemorative benches that will permanently welcome students, alumni, faculty, and visitors outside the Law School’s entrance. ⚖️🏫🪑

Rising third-year Hofstra Law student Tathy Mercedes reflects on her summer internship at the Queens District Attorney's Office and explains how her experience as an interscholastic mock trial competitor has prepared her for success in the role. ⚖️🏛️👩‍⚖️

"A crucial skill I’ve developed through HTAA is learning how to listen. Our coaches emphasize that you should be able to stand up with any witness, have a conversation, and pay attention to what they’re saying. That’s such an important skill for a prosecutor.

During a trial, you can spend hours questioning a single witness, and when the defense is cross-examining your witness, you have to listen carefully for anything that’s objectionable. If you’re not paying attention to those small details, they can have a real impact on the outcome of a case."
