March 2023. The Collins kids’ Zay , The Z-squad first promotion at Mushin. I’m sharing this video because it captures a moment they earned—and the beginning of a journey they’re still writing.
In Jiu Jitsu, a promotion marks progress, but it can’t show every part of the work behind it: the days you feel confident, the days nothing seems to click, and the choice to come back and try again anyway.
That’s what makes looking back so powerful. You can see where they started, and you can appreciate every step they’ve taken since. The lessons reach beyond the mats: be patient with yourself, listen, keep working, and don’t let one hard day decide what you’re capable of.
Collins family, it has been a privilege to watch your kids grow. I’m proud of their journey, and I’m grateful we get to be part of it. 🥋
