🎮 YOU ASKED…AND WE LISTENED! 💚🎮

We have been so incredibly thankful for the response and feedback we’ve received from our homeschool families and just in case you missed our announcement…we’re excited to finally share that we are adding MONDAYS to our Homeschool Class lineup that is starting next week October 12! 🥳

As our homeschool community continues to grow, one of the things we’ve heard is the need for more options and flexibility during the week. We’ve been working behind the scenes to see how we could make that happen…and Mondays are officially happening! 💚

For those who may be newer to our homeschool program, our goal has always been to create something that goes beyond simply coming in and playing video games.

And YES, we LOVE gaming. 🎮😂

But we also use that excitement to get our kids curious about STEM, computer science, technology, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, digital citizenship and so much more.

Some weeks we’re learning how computers work. Other weeks we might be building something, solving a challenge, exploring the STEM hiding inside a game, working as a team, or discovering a piece of technology they never really thought about before.

And honestly, one of my favorite parts has been watching the friendships and community forming along the way. 🩷

We have another fun week planned for our homeschool crew, and this time we’re exploring two worlds that are much bigger than they first appear.

Tuesday & Thursday Classes | Beyond the Bricks

We all know Minecraft is about blocks…but what happens when we look beyond the bricks?

Why are some resources harder to find than others? How does Redstone turn blocks into working machines? What makes a Minecraft world feel like an actual world?

And how much STEM, creativity, strategy, and problem-solving is hiding behind a game that started with placing one block at a time?

This week, we’re digging a little deeper. 😉⛏️

🧠 Wednesday Computer Science Cohort | Real-World Algorithms

Last week, we learned how important it is to give instructions in the right order.

This week, we’re going BIG.

Have you ever wondered…

🔎 How Google finds what you’re looking for so quickly?

🗺️ How your GPS decides which route is fastest?

📺 Why YouTube or Netflix seems to know what you might want to watch next?

None of that happens by accident. 👀

There are some pretty incredible algorithms working behind the scenes of things our kids use every single day—and this week, we’re going to start uncovering them.

🎒 OPTIONAL BRING-IT CHALLENGE

Bring something that involves building, sorting, organizing, or following a system.

🧱 LEGO or building pieces
🃏 A deck of cards
🎲 A favorite game
⛏️ Something Minecraft-inspired
🤔 Or surprise us with something we haven’t thought of!

Another great week with our homeschool crew!

This week was all about algorithms, problem-solving, and learning that sometimes the smallest missing step can change EVERYTHING. 😂

With our Tuesday & Thursday homeschool crew, we spent this week problem-solving our everyday steps and we definitely had a few moments where the kids realized just how important the little details can be. 😂

Our teens worked together to show the steps they took to get out of a maze and with the help of our fellow students and us coaches we demonstrated those exact steps lol…some of us didn’t make it out of the maze 🤣

Both teens and our littles worked through challenges, followed step-by-step instructions, tested different solutions, and learned something we really want them to remember. Our littles had the opportunity to control our coaches by demonstrating what their daily routine was (we even had volunteers join in for the fun 😍)

Always remember…Your first idea doesn’t always have to work, sometimes figuring out why it didn’t work is where the best learning happens. 💚

Another fun week of learning, laughing, and putting those brains to work! We thank you so much for making it out this week and can’t wait to see those beautiful faces next week. From Coach Samantha, Joey and Steve have a great weekend and don’t forgot to see our teaser for next week….might be worth a winning ticket 🎟️ 🤩

Our algorithms took flight! ✈️💚 We followed step-by-step instructions to build paper airplanes, then put them to the test. A little folding, lots of laughter, and a fun way to see how instructions turn into results!

So…what exactly IS an algorithm? 🤔

That was the question for our Computer Science Cohort answered this week!

The fun part was helping our students realize that algorithms aren’t just hidden somewhere inside a computer we use step-by-step processes all day long without even thinking about it.

Our Cohort put that idea to the test by creating, following, and troubleshooting instructions of their own…and quickly discovered what happens when even ONE important step gets left out. 😂

Our students were able to test their flowcharts by programming our house robot dog named Glennbyte with a very special Programer Hat, went a step further against each other via online simulator and finally see if they could follow the given programming directions from their programmer for making paper airplanes. Now you know in true XP League NW fashion, we had to test those planes out to see who flew the furthest. Interesting to see how they far they flew or didn’t 🤣

Computer Science doesn’t always have to start with code. Sometimes it starts with simply learning how to think through a problem. 🩷

Thank you all so much for having fun with us as we were able to learn a little more about our students and their daily routines (algorithm) 😉
