ā€œLITERACY

- the ability to read, write, and understand.
- is the birthright of every child in the world.

Young people need to know how to analyze, interpret, and understand information.

Learn to read nonfiction for information.
Learn to read literature for imagination.

Every child should have access to books.

Young people also need teachers who provide instruction to interpret the information they encounter.

Every child should have literacy confidence.

Literacy confidence = the ability to read, write, and speak about what they know, what they feel, and who they are.

Read every day. Lead a better life.ā€ ā€” Scholastic
