We are so proud of Walker Williams for his participation in the 12th grade Building Science Camp! He was one of only 20 students nationwide chosen to attend. Walker spent the last week learning about the program, attending lectures and workshops, shadowing professors, and participating in various groups activities with peers from all over the US.

Their final project was a design/build project to be judged at the end of the week by department staff including the department head of Building Science, as well as multiple industry executives. Walker took on the role of estimator and his group placed first and did an amazing job. He made a lasting impression on the staff and judges and we received many compliments on his character and work ethic. They were even awarded the coveted Auburn Building Science backpacks, that only their junior/senior competition teams can earn when they compete on a national and international level for Auburn. He was the only student from the Birmingham area, and one of only two from Alabama.

Way to go, Walker! We are so proud of you!

Help us welcome Justin Little to our team! He will teach Health and serve as an assistant coach for football and wrestling.

“My name is Justin Little, and I am excited to join the faculty at Helena High School as a Health teacher and Assistant Football Coach. My family and I have lived in Helena for the past five years, so I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to teach and coach in the community where we live and where our children attend school.

My wife, Nicki, and I have three boys: Jaxon, Cole, and Sam. Family and community are very important to us, and we are proud to call Helena home.

I’m excited to get to work, build relationships with students and athletes, and be part of the tradition and culture at Helena High School.

Join us in extending a warm welcome to Landon Gaskins! He will be teaching Social Studies and will serve as the Girls' Soccer Head Coach.

"Hello! My name is Landon Gaskins. I am thrilled to join the faculty at Helena High School as a History Teacher and the Girls' Head Varsity Soccer Coach.
I am entering my 5th year in Education, having worked for Shelby County Schools at Calera High School and Oak Mountain High School.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree from Troy University and a Master's from the University of Montevallo. Outside of work, I am a proud husband to Audrey and father to Beckham.

We are so proud of our students participating in the Girls State program this year! Piper Boss was elected Secretary of State, received the Good Citizen Award, and was nominated to interview for a chance to attend Girls Nation. Harper Morris also shined brightly, earning the title of elected County Commissioner. These young women represented our school with excellence and we couldn't be more proud. Congratulations to both on an incredible set of achievements!

Join us as we extend a warm welcome to Bruce Pears! He is joining our team as a math teacher and Girls' Basketball Coach.

"Born and raised in Mobile, AL, Bruce M. Pears is a former dual-sport athlete in basketball and track who competed at Millsaps College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Business Administration. He later obtained his Master’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of South Alabama.

Pears’ first tenure as a head coach came at St. Luke’s (Mobile, AL), where he led the Lady Wildcats to their first-ever Final Four appearance while earning AL.com Coach of the Year honors. Known for his energy, enthusiasm, and passion, he brings a dynamic presence both in the classroom and on the court, adding value as a high-level math educator and basketball coach. His mission is to use the game of basketball—and his love for mathematics—to develop disciplined, well-rounded individuals prepared for success in all areas of life.

Now at Helena High School, the mission is clear: build a culture that demands excellence—on the court, in the classroom, and in everyday habits. Tough, disciplined, and united—this program will be defined by how we work.

"Hi, I'm Caity Jenkins and I am so excited to continue my career at Helena High School! I am passionate about helping my students grow emotionally and educationally as well as helping them discover life long career plans that they are excited about. I enjoy getting to know my students personally and tailoring our learning environment to meet their needs. When I'm not teaching I spend time with my husband and our pets and read as much as possible. I can't wait for the school year to start. Go Huskies!"

Our amazing faculty and staff gathered this week for an end-of-year celebration hosted by our incredible PTO! We honored our retirees (Mrs. Fowler and Coach Maple), celebrated our Teacher of the Year (Mr. Dupuis) and Staff Person of the Year (Mrs. Lancaster), and recognized parent submissions for several educators who make a difference every single day (Mrs. Griffith, Coach Dover, Mr. Jordan, Ms. Smith, Mrs. Channell, Mrs. Adkins, & Mr. Traylor). 21 seniors were awarded the Alabama Seal of Biliteracy for demonstrating language proficiency in English and another language. This is a huge accomplishment and we are so proud of their efforts.
