I grew up in Estes Park, Colorado. One of my most fond memories is hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. One of the most memorable hikes was up and over Flattop Mountain from Bear Lake to Grand Lake with my parents and siblings. One the backside of Flattop Mountain are some of the most prolific fields of Colorado Blue Columbine that you’ll ever see. They also grow at the outlet to Sky Pond which sits at 10,900 ft and is guarded by Taylor Peak (13,158’). It is a most epic location firmly etched into my memory.

Imagine my joy, when today for the first time since I moved here in 1996, I found Colorado Blue Columbine growing wild in Montana! It was surreal to be watching a field of Iris and then realize that one of those flowers is not like the others! So, I present to you my all time favorite flower, the Colorado Blue Columbine!
