BLHS Launches Community Careers Connection with Lorie Kirtz

Lorie Kirtz of Ameriprise Financial and the Buffalo Lake EDA recently visited BLHS to officially kick off the school's Community Careers Connection (C3) initiative. Speaking to students across Personal Finance, Ag Leadership, and Economics classes, Kirtz delivered a comprehensive session on essential life and wealth-building skills. She highlighted the real-world impact of monitoring a credit score, the practical steps for creating a budget and balance sheet, and the immense long-term value of starting retirement contributions early.

The presentation also offered practical, hands-on advice, including how to review lifetime earnings history through SSA.gov and the need to understand and complete essential legal documents. Beyond financial literacy, Kirtz emphasized the importance of recognizing personal social traits to collaborate and communicate effectively in the workplace, giving students a well-rounded foundation for their future careers. Kirtz mentioned, "It was great to provide students with insights into finance they may have never seen before to prepare them for life post-secondary."

A huge thank you to Central United Cooperative for donating $2,000 to the BLHS FFA Chapter this morning! And to make the gift even more impactful, Land O'Lakes generously matched their donation!

These funds will help with our affiliate membership dues and allow us to continue providing our students with opportunities to travel, learn, lead, and be involved in FFA.

We also loved having BLHS alum Mitchell Kleeberger help present the check! It’s pretty special to see our former students come back and continue to be involved in and support the program that they were once a part of.

We are so grateful for the continued support from our local ag community. Thank you, CUC and Land O’Lakes! 🌱🚜
