Our School Leadership Team

As we prepare for an exciting new school year, we are thrilled to celebrate the continued growth of our leadership team. Please join us in welcoming Melissa Flaherty as the new Assistant Principal for HES! Mrs. Flaherty comes to us from New Britain, bringing extensive experience as a classroom teacher, STEAM teacher, literacy specialist, math specialist, and school climate specialist. She serves as the “Head Teacher” (acting administrator on duty) at her school and manages a 200-student summer school program as “Summer School Principal”. Her impressive background includes overseeing a large federal grant that drove significant student growth, as well as co-leading curriculum development across literacy, math, STEAM, and SEL. We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Flaherty to our team. She will join Katie Uriano in her new role as Principal of Schools and work closely with GHS Assistant Principal Sarah Haynes. Together, this team brings deep experience, dedication, and a shared commitment to supporting our students, staff, and families. We look forward to the positive impact they will make in the years ahead!

Welcoming Our New Band Teacher
Ms. Melissa Szymanski

We are delighted to welcome Ms. Melissa Szymanski as the new Band Teacher for grades four and five at Hebron Elementary School! Melissa brings thirteen years of teaching experience and has a passion for introducing young musicians to instrumental music. Most recently she has been the part-time band teacher for Buttonball and Naubuc elementary schools in Glastonbury. She will continue with Glastonbury three days a week and will be with us two days a week. Ms. Szymanski joins Ms. Gee, who will be leading the sixth grade band, as they both continue our strong instrumental music program with our students.

Governor Lamont has convened a Blue-Ribbon Commission on K-12 Education Funding and Accountability to examine and recommend comprehensive improvements to Connecticut's public school funding system. The Commission's work is intended to strengthen educational opportunities for all students across the state. As part of this effort, the Commission is seeking input from educators, families, community members, and other stakeholders across Connecticut. Your perspective matters.

Connecticut has an opportunity to rethink how public schools are funded. If you have ideas, experiences, or concerns to share, now is the time to make your voice heard.

The roof installation at GHS is almost done and the rain yesterday put it to the test! ⛈️ NO LEAKS! Our projects at GHS continue to be running on or ahead of schedule. Kudos to our custodial team who are making great progress getting both schools ready for students and staff!

☀️ We are incredibly busy this summer at HPS! Between summer school, curriculum planning, and hiring, our schools are buzzing—and our major renovation projects at GHS are well underway!

Code Correction Project: Moving fast and currently one week ahead of schedule! 👏
