Many employers will recruit in advance since they know many Workampers are planners (Summer 2027 recruiting has already started!). Finding the right Workamping job takes work, but it's easier as a Workamper News member!

Workampers who put effort into staying connected year-round with the world of Workamping open themselves up to the most possibilities. You never know when that "perfect position" is going to be posted to our website or described in our podcast.

Today, I’m talking with a full-time RVer and van lifer who has spent nearly six years traveling the country as an entrepreneur and business owner before she discovered Workamping a few years ago.

Cami Baker loved being a business owner, but when she discovered Workamping about three years ago, she found a lifestyle that better matched the freedom she has always valued.

Her first Workamping job took her to the redwoods of Northern California, where she worked as a housekeeper.

Since then, Cami has taken on some unusual assignments, including quality control during an Idaho potato harvest, leading tours through a Texas cave, and serving as a camp host in Colorado.

Along the way, she traded her Class C motorhome for a Chevy Express van, dramatically downsized her possessions and learned how little she really needs to enjoy life on the road.

In this episode, Cami explains why Workamping has become her happy place, how she approaches the inevitable challenges of RV living, and why mindset can make or break a Workamping experience.

When you make contact with a potential employer, make sure you get enough information to fully understand what will be expected of you (specific duties, hours, days off, wages, benefits, insurance, training, supervision, start/end dates, etc.) and ask the employer for the details of the opportunity in writing.

Compensation for Workamping jobs is as varied as the jobs. It can range from exchanges of an RV site or housing - plus utilities and perks for many of the seasonal jobs - to competitive salaries plus insurance, PTO, etc. for some full-time positions.

Employers of temporary or seasonal workers are currently offering compensation packages (wages + benefits) ranging from $7 to $27+ per hour. Jobs that include managerial or supervisory responsibilities, or require formal education and/or certification, should pay towards the higher end of this range, or even higher.

Keep in mind that Workamping involves any kind of work performed while residing in an RV. Many Workampers work in jobs unrelated to the outdoor hospitality industry. Some simply choose to continue their current vocation or business while enjoying the Workamper lifestyle. In these situations, you can expect to make at least as much as you are currently earning.

In cases where on-site camping is not available, some employers will often assist in finding an RV site or housing for you, provide you with a housing stipend, or you may simply be on your own to find a local RV site.

Jennifer Schillaci has spent more than a decade raising a family on the road while building businesses that serve the RV community.
