📚 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗚𝗮𝗽. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁.

A few years ago, ASU-Beebe Practical Care Technician (PCT) high school students at the Lonoke Business Academy noticed something missing from their textbook: there was little information about caring for coily and textured hair, an important part of providing comprehensive patient care.

"Instead of accepting the gap, our students spoke up," said MiMi McAfee, medical professions/PCT instructor. "They developed content and a presentation addressing the need and submitted it to Hartman Publishing." McAfee said their work made a difference. The content was incorporated into the hair-care sections of Hartman’s medical training books, helping future healthcare professionals learn more inclusive approaches to patient care.

Recently, that story came into a full circle. After learning the classes at the Lonoke Business Academy would be transitioning to the updated PCT textbook, Hartman Publishing donated 25 new textbooks and workbooks to the PCT students — approximately $1,800-$2,000 in educational materials provided at no cost to the students.

Congratulations to previous PCT students Jamiya Bryant, Shakari James, Aaliyah Sheppard, Adrian Tharpe, and Kaleigh Bryant, on getting the content published.

"What started as a classroom observation became a change that reaches far beyond the classroom," McAfee said.

We’re proud of our PCT scholars for speaking up, taking action, and helping shape the future of healthcare education.

⚙️ 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗦𝗨-𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗯𝗲!

The ASU-Beebe CNC Program has been awarded a $19,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation! The funding will provide scholarships for CNC students, support students competing in SkillsUSA, and help strengthen professional development for instructors.
