Wasatch High School Air Force JROTC Program Air Force JROTC has been offered at Wasatch HS since fall 2017. It is open to all students grades 9-12. Students can take JROTC for one or all four years.

It combines academics, leadership, fitness, service, and clubs in a hands-on learning environment.

Cadets built 46 Easter baskets for the CCPC drive. Baskets were packed with books, coloring books, colored pencils, stuffed animal, toothbrush/toothpaste and eggs filled with candy. They were delivered to the CCPC food pantry where families will be able to take what they need for their children. It has been a tradition for the corps the last several years! Great job cadets! ♥️

Congratulations to the Academic Bowl team: they advanced to the National Championship in Washington DC!!

The primary goal of Academic Bowl is to help cadets prepare for the ACT or SAT. Categories on the tests include vocab, grammar, reading, math, science and general knowledge (financial literacy, college prep and current events). Each unit is allowed a max of two teams with 4-6 cadets on a team. Testing is done online, with Level 1 in November 2025. 707 Air Force JROTC teams competed in Level 1, with each team assigned to a division. Wasatch advanced to Level 2 with a score of 81%, along with 229 teams in their division (average score was 73%). Wasatch completed their Level 2 testing on 10 Feb and just learned they advanced to the National Championship with their score of 91%. Only the top 10 teams from level 2 advanced in their division, for a total of 16 Air Force JROTC schools across all three divisions.

The cadets that competed in Level 2 were juniors Joe Grayson and Emilia Charlton, sophomores Hilary Palmer and Jonas Bevan, and freshman Bethany Workman and Levi Olsen. Freshman Jackson Groomes practiced with the team as a backup if needed.

Only four cadets can travel to DC in June and those selections will be made soon.

Congrats to the team! They had to learn many new things and dedicated a lot of time to make their goal of Nationals. They will be spending the next few months preparing for a whole new format of Jeopardy buzzer style questions from several topics like history, government, art, music, literature as well as current events and math.

Wasatch Cadets led the 2025 Swiss Days parade on Saturday 30 Sept. They have been doing the Color Guard for the parade since the unit stood up in fall 2017.

Midway Swiss Days started as a harvest festival in 1947 and has grown to a two-day event that draws tens of thousands of people to our small valley each Labor Day weekend.

Wasatch Cadets were busy in July and early August Celebrations across the Heber Valley asked for cadet volunteers.

The first event was the Midway flag ceremony to kick off their Fourth of July program at 06:30 in the morning. Then the cadets traveled to Wallsburg for a flag raising ceremony. Finally, cadets led the first ever Heber City 4th of July parade.

On 24 July, cadets supported Pioneer Day by participating in the Wallsburg parade. Pioneer Day honors the first group of church pioneers that entered the Salt Lake valley on 24 July 1847.

On 2 Aug, cadets led the Wasatch County Fair parade. There were over 60 entries in the parade.

School starts next week with many more Color Guard opportunities!! Color Guard is a great way to get involved in the corps and earn service hours. In previous years we had over 45 Color Guard events.

The cadets manned a booth at the Heber Market on Main last month, generating support for Wreaths Across America.

Wreaths Across America is a national program that aims to put a live balsam wreath on every veterans headstone a couple weeks before Christmas. It started in 1992 at Arlington cemetery and is now at more than 4200 locations across the nation. This year the event will be 13 Dec.

Cadets helped place 400 wreaths last year at the Heber Cemetery and discovered dozens more veterans that were not accounted for on our master list, so our goal this year is 550 wreaths.

Please think about our veterans on this Fourth of July and consider sponsoring a wreath. Wreaths are only $17 and tax deductible. The cadets will be working on this project throughout the semester.

Two of our graduating seniors have now embarked on their next set of adventures! Waylon Giese and Wyatt Cerynar have committed to defending our nation by attending a military academy for four years and then serving for at least 5 years in active duty. Please support them by writing over the summer. Written letters are their main form of communication for a while. Let's flood their mailboxes!
