Carson Brownell, SVP and Partner at HGR Construction, Inc., serves as a Foundation Board Member for Seminole State College. His long-standing connection to the College’s Construction Program has allowed him to support students, strengthen industry relationships, and help create pathways to successful careers.

There’s a lot to celebrate when a new group of Wayne Densch Scholars arrives at Seminole State College of Florida!

These first-generation college students have more than a scholarship behind them. Through the Wayne M. Densch Scholarship Program, they’ll have access to dedicated advisors, peer mentors, workshops and resources designed to help them navigate college, get involved and prepare for the future!

Made possible through the generosity of Wayne M. Densch Charities, Inc. and administered by the Foundation for Seminole State College, the program provides scholarships for up to two years. along with a network of people invested in each student’s success.

From scholarship workshops and application assistance to outreach and awards events, these two work hard to make sure students know about the opportunities available to help them keep moving toward their goals.

For Tanya Myrtil, nursing represents compassion, responsibility and the ability to think critically — qualities she saw firsthand growing up with a mother who worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for more than 20 years.

Now, Tanya is pursuing her Associate in Science in Nursing at Seminole State College of Florida and is a proud recipient of the Femmes De Coeur, Inc. Nursing Endowed Scholarship through the Foundation’s scholarship program.

“Between classes, clinicals and working, things can get really stressful sometimes. This scholarship takes a huge weight off my shoulders and helps me stay focused on school and my goal of becoming a Registered Nurse, and eventually, a Nurse Anesthetist. Knowing there are people who believe in me and want to support me means a lot.”

We’re proud to help students like Tanya pursue their goals and prepare for careers that will make a difference in the lives of others.

Meet Bryce Fegers, a nursing student at Seminole State College of Florida and recipient of the Gallagher Family Endowed Scholarship in Nursing through the Foundation scholarships program.

Bryce has spent years helping others as a CrossFit coach and yoga instructor, inspiring people to build healthier lives. Now, he's taking that passion even further by pursuing a career in nursing.

"I got into nursing school to make a change in my life," Bryce shared. "I still wanted to help others and guide them through their healing, but I also discovered how challenging it can be to make a living through group fitness coaching and yoga instruction alone. I'm eager to finish nursing school so I can continue helping and healing others while also experiencing financial stability for the first time in my life. I've been able to help others turn their lives around, and I can't wait to use my education as a nurse to make an even greater impact."

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, students like Bryce can stay focused on preparing for careers that strengthen our community every day.

Back-to-school season is here, and we're excited to help local students start the year on the right foot!

Foundation Executive Director John Gyllin kicked off the week at the Seminole County Sheriff's Office Shop with the Sheriff event, where local students received school supplies, clothing, and plenty of encouragement as they prepare for the new school year.

The Foundation for Seminole State College was honored to sponsor the colorful event T-shirts worn by the students, and we're grateful to our partners at the Seminole County Sheriff's Office for creating such a wonderful day for local families.

Wishing all of these amazing students a successful school year!
