11/14/2025

Our ball carriers for our last senior high game last week were Andy Lisko from the HHS class of 1995 and Terry Duval from the future class of 2035!

During his time at Hazen High, Andy played football and golf for the Hornets. He was named All State in both sports his senior year. As a middle linebacker and offensive tackle, one of his favorite memories from high school was scoring his only touchdown on a scoop and score while playing Woodlawn.

Terry is an 8 year old 3rd grader in Mrs. Julie’s home room class. He is the grandson of Robert and Diane Chidester. Terry says his favorite part of school at Hazen Elementary is PE! Terry and the rest of his 3rd grade class will be our future graduates of the class of 2035!

* This year the Hazen Alumni Association celebrated the year of the “5s” by selecting alumni from the classes of 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005, and 2015 to present the game ball before each home football game. Joining our alumni each week was a Hazen Elementary third grader from the future class of 2035!

Our ball carriers for last week’s senior high game were Donnie Boothe from the HHS class of 1985 and Ayla Henderson from the future class of 2035!

During his time at Hazen High, Donnie ran track and played football. He was a 3 year letterman, named All District Defensive Lineman of the year, and a member of the 1982 state championship runner up team. Donnie’s many memories from HHS include watching great players Rodney VanHouten, Rusty Rogers, James Earl Sanders, and Frankie Lisko and playing against great DeValls Bluff players, Darell Prine and Gus, Lee, and Tony Rhoden. Another special memory he has is of his mother coming to parents’ night. Donnie continued supporting HHS after graduating. He has watched his brother, nephews, niece, and daughters all cheer and play sports for the hornets. He has also served as a coach, Superintendent of the Hazen School District and is currently the assistant principal.

Ayla is an 8 year old 3rd grader in Mrs. Ronna’s home room class. She is the daughter of Chase and Morgan Henderson. Ayla says her favorite part of school at Hazen Elementary is PE! Ayla and the rest of her 3rd grade class will be our future graduates of the class of 2035!

Our Conference Champion Junior High Hornets finished the season last Thursday undefeated! Our ball carriers for the win over Clarendon were Brian Cress from the HHS class of 1995 and Gauge Stephens from the future class of 2035!

Brian was the class president of his 1995 graduating class. During his time at Hazen High, he was a standout athlete, being named an all district player for football, basketball and baseball.
One of Brian’s favorite high school memories is upsetting the #3 undefeated Augusta Red Devils on the road to advance to the football state quarterfinals.

Gauge is an 8 year old 3rd grader in Mrs. Ronna’s home room class. He is the son of Michael and Ellen Stephens. Gauge says his favorite part of school at Hazen Elementary is recess, lunch, PE, and playing football! Gauge and the rest of his 3rd grade class will be our future graduates of the class of 2035!

Our ball carriers for last Friday's Senior High win against Baptist Prep were Gail Cox from the HHS class of 1965, Leigh Cox Turner from the HHS class of 1985, and Preston Edge from the future class of 2035!

Ms. Gail was the senior class reporter, an FHA officer and a member of the HHS Band. She was named Homecoming Queen her senior year and was escorted by her friends Sam Tipton and Ricky Chudy. A favorite memory of Gail’s was spending the weekends with her parents at the drag races beating all the boys.

Ms. Gail’s daughter, Leigh Turner, joined her as a representative of the class of 1985. She also represented all our Breast Cancer survivors who were honored during the Pink Out game. During her time at HHS, Leigh was a cheerleader and a member of the choir, FBLA, and National Honor Society. Her favorite memories revolve around the fun activities that took place during the weeks leading up to the big Hazen vs Carlisle Football games. She fondly remembers the Thursday night bon fires, lunch car bashes, and dress up days. The spirit train started while she was in high school where everyone decorated their cars in purple and white and slipped into Carlisle proudly displaying their Hornet Pride. It only took about 15 minutes of horn honking before the bison football team rallied up and chased the whole line of cars back east on Highway 70 where the Hornet football team was waiting. The hairy cows busted a u-turn and sped back to Carlisle!

Preston is an 8 year old 3rd grader in Mrs. Julie’s home room class. He is the son of Jon and Amber Edge. Preston says his favorite part of school at Hazen Elementary is going to PE Class with Coach T! Preston and the rest of his 3rd grade class will be our future graduates of the class of 2035!

Our ball carriers for last Thursday's Junior High win were Billy Boothe from the HHS class of 1965 and Huntley Prislovsky from the future class of 2035!

During his time at HHS, Mr. Billy was involved in FFA and Beta Club. His favorite subject in school was English and his favorite teachers were Mrs. Leola McDonald and Mrs. Charlene Jeffcoat. One memory that has always stuck in Mr. Billy’s head is from the 7th grade. He and another student got into a fight right outside the superintendent’s office. They caused quite the commotion. The superintendent came out of his office with his belt drawn and told them he was about to give them something to holler about! Billy attended school in the old two story brick building up until the 9th grade. He remembers the move in 10th grade to the new high school building that is still in use today.

Huntley is an 8 year old 3rd grader in Ms. Ronna’s home room class. She is the daughter of Wade and Andrea Prislovsky. Huntley says her favorite part of school at Hazen Elementary is recess and PE! Huntley and the rest of her 3rd grade classmates will be our future graduates of the class of 2035!

Our ball carriers for last week’s Homecoming game were Jane Smith, the 1975 Hazen High School Homecoming Queen and Parker Owens from the future class of 2035!

Jane was very honored to be chosen as Hazen High’s 1975 Homecoming Queen. Her escorts were Chip Adams and Roger Templeton. Her ball boy and flower girl were Kyle Grubbs and Nancy Chlapecka. She remembers wearing a homemade crown that was made by Ms. Chris Weems. It was 50 years ago that Jane wore the crown and this year her granddaughter, Sophie R***r, was chosen as the 2025 Homecoming Queen.

Parker is an 8 year old 3rd grader in Ms. Ronna’s home room class. He is the son of Jackie and Tara Owens. Parker says his favorite part of school at Hazen Elementary is recess! Parker and the rest of his 3rd grade class will be our future graduates of the class of 2035!

Homecoming was a success! The classes of 1965, 1975, and 1985 were well represented at the coronation, pep rally, and parade. Old memories were recalled and new memories were made. Once A Hornet, Always A Hornet!

Today is Homecoming! The coronation and pep rally start at 2:00 in the gym. The parade will follow. Tonight's ceremony starts at 6:00 and the game begins at 7:00. Go Hornets!

Our ball carriers for last Thursday's Junior High win were Trudy Johnson from the HHS class of 1975 and Autymn Pinkney from the future class of 2035!

During her time at Hazen, Trudy was a Girl’s State Delegate, a part of the Junior/Senior Play, and a Cheerleader. One of Trudy’s favorite memories from Hazen High was attending the graduation party with all her classmates. Trudy’s class is celebrating their 50th reunion this weekend during Homecoming!

Autymn is a 8 year old 3rd grader in Ms. Julie’s home room class. She is the daughter of Lamondra Pinkney and the niece of Senior Hornet, JJ Pinkney. Autymn says her favorite part of school at Hazen Elementary is recess and reading books!

Calling all HHS Alumni from classes ending in 5! We want to see you all at Homecoming. You are encouraged to set up a table full of high school memories, sit together as a class at the ceremonies, and have a float in the parade. We can even offer a tour of the school to your group! How long has it been since you walked the halls of good ole HHS? Last year, we had a great turnout for the "4" classes and even had several people come in from out of state. This is your year classes of 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005, and 2015! Please send us a message and let us know if you are coming!

Attention Alumni! Homecoming is two weeks from tomorrow. If you have any memorabilia from your days at HHS that you are willing to part with, the alumni association will take it! We want to preserve our history and eventually have a place to display it year-round. If you don’t have anything you want to permanently give away, then we are also grateful for anything you could loan us for display during Homecoming Week. We will happily return any items back to you. Just message us on Facebook to arrange for pickup or drop-off. Once a hornet, always a hornet!
