Over the last 2 days, Russell held our annual MAP celebrations for our current 4th & 5th grade students, as well as last year's 5th grade students, who scored Proficient or Advanced on at least one content on last year's MAP assessment! These students had the opportunity to place their handprints on our Russell MAP Wall of Fame and also received certificates and Russell swag as part of the festivities. We are SO proud of these students and all of their hard work, not just at MAP time, but all throughout the year!! Click the link below to access the full photo album:

Today, Russell welcomed members of the HFPD to our building for lessons and activities around fire prevention safety. Students learned about ways to prevent fires from occurring, as well as steps to take if they should ever find themselves in an emergency situation. Our PreK students had a particularly fun time learning about how fire engines work!

Mrs. Swallow's 1st grade students recently created sun compasses using paper plates and straws. Students compared the sun's position to their previous observations and noticed that the sun appears to change position throughout the day. Students are learning about cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west) and how people can use the sun to help determine direction. The class also connected this learning to bird migration, discussing how birds use patterns in the daytime and nighttime sky, including the sun, to help them navigate as they travel.
