The attached video shows Mr. Justice’s fourth grade students enjoying their Dress for A Mess activity with Mrs. Phipps. Fourth grade students enjoyed their Dress for A Mess activity today with Mrs. Phipps and Mr. Justice. This week’s activity was a STEM project that was inspired by a book from the I Survived series. Mr. Justice has allowed Mrs. Phipps to read to his fourth grade students this week. The text they were read was based on the devastation that occurred in Pompeii. Students were challenged to use LEGOS to create a city. After students created their city a volcano was placed within the city limits. Our fourth graders enjoyed watching their volcanoes erupt. We discussed the architecture of ancient Rome, the importance of emergency management, and evacuation strategies. This project would not have been successful without the support from our kitchen staff and our custodian, Mr. Bailey. STC staff member, Brittney Boyd provided additional support in photographing and videoing this fun activity.

Starting next week, parents of students who are absent will get a notification through Parent Square, appearing as a text and/or email. Please know that the program does not recognize if the student came in late. Do not panic if you know your child arrived at school late and you still get an absent notification. Carpet time is the perfect whole group setting to develop listening skills, practice taking turns, and to allow classroom teachers to ask students comprehension questions. Ms. Kayla communicated that she loves seeing her students sharpen their recall and reflection skills as she provides them with a daily read aloud at the carpet.

During observations of Ms. Kayla’s class, Mrs. Phipps loved seeing the positive affirmations that Ms. Kayla had on display for students. The pictured students echo read these affirmations with Ms. Kayla each morning. Afterwards, she explains what these affirmations mean. Exposure to positive affirmations allow for reflection and positive social-emotional wellbeing.

Our students did an excellent job during last week’s drills. Our district’s SRO, Elijah Banks, was invited to observe safety drills. RRVE students were excited to see Officer Banks on our campus.
