ADAI's State Apiary Inspector Brandon Hargraves is back with the monthly Apiary Activity Report - August Brief! August is one of the toughest months for Alabama honeybee colonies, as heat, limited nectar, and rising Varroa mite pressure demand careful, hands-on management. The choices made now directly impact the strength and survival of colonies heading into fall and winter.

August's edition also focuses on:
🐝Staying ahead of mites and colony health: Perform mite washes, don’t rely on appearance alone, and treat promptly if thresholds are exceeded.
🐝Watching forage and feeding when needed: Nectar sources vary so monitor blooms and supplement with syrup if stores are low.
🐝Reducing stress and controlling pests: Maintain proper ventilation and space, limit inspections and manage small hive beetles and robbing risks.
